Chapter 24
Chapter 24 — The Photograph Without a Third Person
Six months after all legal procedures ended, everyone's lives gradually settled into a new rhythm. Ha Studio has moved to a more spacious location, enough to accommodate the growing number of customers coming to Ha because of her reputation for honesty and talent. Dieu Thao, after many months of tireless work, was promoted to co-owner of the studio, a worthy recognition for her tireless contributions throughout the tumultuous journey.
"Miss Ha, I just received an invitation to take photos for a big charity event in the city," Dieu Thao announced one morning, her voice filled with excitement. "They said they wanted to partner with a studio that had an 'ethical vision,' to quote them verbatim."
Ha laughed, feeling a warm sense of pride at that recognition. "So in the end, our professional principles also bring good opportunities, not just problems."
Gia Bao's construction safety consulting work also developed strongly. He has built a small team of talented young engineers who share his vision of putting human safety above profits. His speech at the national conference on construction safety received a warm welcome, opening up many new opportunities for cooperation with state management agencies in developing more stringent inspection standards.
"I've just been invited to join a national advisory committee," Gia Bao told Ha one evening, his voice unable to hide the pride. "They want to rebuild the entire construction safety supervision process, based on lessons learned from my case and similar incidents."
"It's a great opportunity for you to create real change on a large scale," Ha said, her eyes filled with admiration for the man who turned his pain into motivation to protect others.

The relationship between Ha and Gia Bao continues to develop deeply each month. They moved to live together in a small but cozy apartment, close to both Ha's studio and Gia Bao's new office, convenient for both in work and daily life.
One weekend afternoon, while the two were cleaning up the living room, Gia Bao found an old storage box containing mementos from their journey together — a printout of the original photo number seventeen, notes from the early days of the investigation, and even a bag that was recovered by the police after the robbery, although the hard drive inside was never found.
"Do you still keep all of these?" he asked, surprised as he flipped through each item.
"I want to remember the journey that brought us together," Ha replied, sitting down next to him, looking back at old memorabilia. "Even though there were difficult and dangerous times, I don't regret any of those moments."
Gia Bao picked up the original photo and looked at it for a long time - the image of him standing quietly behind a marble pillar, an unintentional moment that completely changed both of their lives. "Me too," he said softly. "If it weren't for that moment of weakness, when I boldly came to look at my mother from afar, maybe I would never have met you."
"Fate has its own strange way of working," Ha said, smiling and resting her head on his shoulder.
They sat quietly together, looking at the mementos of a past journey, clearly feeling that the difficulties they had experienced had now become a solid foundation for a deep and lasting love.

That evening, after cleaning up, Gia Bao suggested that they both take a walk along the riverbank - where he first confessed his love to her many months ago. The sunset dyed the sky orange, the gentle wind blew across the sparkling river surface.
"Ngoc Ha," he said, his voice unusually shaky, "I have something to tell you."
Ha turned to look at him, noticing the unusually serious look on his face. "What's the matter?"
Gia Bao took a deep breath, then slowly knelt down on one knee and took out a small box from his pocket. Ha put her hand to her mouth, surprised and extremely emotional when she realized what was happening.
"Four years ago, I lost everything — my identity, my career, my family," Gia Bao said, his voice trembling with emotion but his eyes had never been so determined. "But you came into my life and gave me a reason to believe in the future again. Ngoc Ha, do you agree to be my wife?"
Ha stood silently for a few seconds, tears rolling down her cheeks before she could say a word. She looked down at the sparkling ring in the box, then looked at the face of the man kneeling in front of her - the man she first met in his greasy auto mechanic uniform, never knew his real name, never imagined that behind that quiet appearance was a whole story capable of changing her life.
"I agree," she said, her voice choked with emotion. "I agree, Gia Bao."
He stood up, put the ring on her finger with his still slightly shaking hands, then hugged her amidst the brilliant sunset by the river. A few people walking nearby applauded, some even held up their phones to take pictures of that moment, but the two no longer paid attention to anything around them, only recognizing each other in the flow of people passing by.
"How long have you been preparing this ring?" Ha asked, her voice still shaking with emotion as they sat down on a nearby stone bench.
"Three months," Gia Bao admitted, smiling slightly. "I went to the jeweler no less than five times, each time changing my mind about the style because I was afraid it wouldn't suit you. In the end, I chose the simplest style, because I think that's really you — no need to show off, just be authentic."
Ha looked at the ring on his hand, a delicate but not fussy design, just like what he said. "It's perfect," she said. "It's like everything you do — it's not showy, but it's always filled with a lot of passion."

News of the engagement quickly spread among friends and family. Mrs. Kim Oanh, when she heard the news, burst into tears right on the phone, unable to hide her burst of happiness.
"I've been looking forward to this day for a long time," she said, her voice trembling with emotion. "I always knew Ngoc Ha was the right person for you, Bao, right from the first time you mentioned her."
Dieu Thao, upon hearing the news from Ha the next morning, screamed with joy in the middle of the studio, causing several customers waiting to take photos to turn and look with curious eyes. "I told you, Ms. Ha! I said from the first time I saw the way you two looked at each other that this would happen sooner or later!"
"You're right," Ha admitted, unable to hide the bright smile on her lips. "But don't be too proud."
"So who will take your wedding photos?" Dieu Thao asked, her eyes lit up with mischief. "You're not planning on taking your own wedding photos, are you?"
Ha laughed at that strange idea. "Of course not. Perhaps, this will be the first time in my life that I get to stand in front of the camera instead of behind it."
Gia Huy, upon hearing the news from his brother, also sent his sincere congratulations, although his voice still contained a hint of guilt about what happened in the past. "I'm happy for you, I really am," he said over the phone. "You deserve this happiness, after everything you've been through."
"Thank you," Gia Bao replied. "And I hope, one day, you will also find your own happiness, even though the road ahead is still full of challenges."
Khanh Vy, even though she is still in the process of temporarily separating from Gia Huy, also sent her congratulations to Ha through a short but sincere message: "Congratulations. After all the ups and downs, it's nice to see someone finding a beautiful ending."
Ha read that message with deep appreciation, understanding that behind those congratulations was a complex feeling that Khanh Vy was still facing in her own healing journey.
That evening, when there were only two people left in the small apartment, Ha sat leaning on Gia Bao's shoulder, looking at the sparkling ring under the warm yellow light. "Have you thought about where to hold the wedding?" she asked, her voice soft and dreamy.
"I think, maybe it should be a very simple place," Gia Bao replied, his hand gently stroking her hair. "It doesn't need to be too lavish, just having the people we love most next to us."
"I think so too," Ha said. "Maybe just a small garden, a few simple banquet tables, and lots of flowers."
"And of course," Gia Bao added, his voice turning mischievous, "there had to be a really good photographer to capture the moment — although I'm not sure if there's anyone talented enough to take your place."
Ha laughed, leaning her head on his shoulder, clearly feeling the rare peace that she had never dared to dream of during the past turbulent months. Outside the window, the city lights still sparkled like every night, but to her, this night had a more special meaning than ever - the night that marked the official beginning of a new chapter, their own chapter, written not by fate or chance, but by the choice of two hearts that went through the darkness together to find the light.
