Chapter 21
Chapter 21 — There Are Positions You Can Only Hold For Yourself
“Did I tell you to hide it from me and handle it?”
“Or should I tell him to get married in exchange for money from the Giang family?”
Ms. Vuong Le was shouted at until she trembled.
“Now you turn to blame me?”
"That year he was busy with company matters, he never took care of family matters."
"When something happens to Nhien Nhien, am I always the one to clean it up?"
Tran Kien Nghiep smiled coldly.
“That's why she cleaned it up like this.”
He turned to Tran Nhien, his voice was terrifyingly deep.
“Who told you to write that supplementary agreement?”
Tran Nhien raised his hand to wipe the corner of his mouth.
“Dad, let's talk about this later.”
Tran Kien Nghiep kicked the chair next to him.
“Speak now.”
The entire banquet hall fell silent again. Even the voices of the reporters outside the door seemed to be somewhat suppressed by this anger. Tran Nhien clenched her hands and spoke a long time later.
“I told the legal department to prepare it.”
“But that's just a backup plan.”
"After the Giang family's capital is poured in, if the project is withdrawn midway, both sides must be bound."
Lawyer Tham spoke coldly.
“Binding both sides, or unilaterally tying the Giang family?”
Old Tien immediately responded.
“I have seen that clause.”
“Very well written.”
"Once the Giang family proactively terminates the cooperation, they will have to bear all of the Tran family's initial investment costs, expected profits and related losses."
“There is no limit to the amount of compensation.”
When my mother heard that, her face turned pale. My father held my mother's hand, but his voice was still very calm.
“So after the engagement, you plan to first keep my daughter.”
“Then use the project to tie up the Giang family.”
"Once the money comes in, love is fine, marriage is fine, whether we want to withdraw or not is no longer up to us to decide."
Tran Nhien frowned slightly.
“Uncle, I never thought about harming the Giang family.”
My father looked at him, his eyes so cold that there was no longer any temperature.
“I just want the Giang family to no longer have a choice.”
Tran Nhien was stopped by that sentence. Manh Dinh suddenly burst out laughing.
“Did everyone hear that?”
“He treats everyone the same.”
“For Giang Nguyet, it is a chess piece.”
“For me, it's also a chess piece.”
“I used to think that in his heart, I was special.”
“In the end, I was just something for him to satisfy himself with.”
Tran Nhien suddenly turned his head.
“Manh Dinh, don't make yourself look like an innocent person.”
“You called the reporter today.”
“The documents were released by you.”
“You want to cancel the engagement, destroy the Giang family, and also destroy the Tran family.”
Manh Dinh's eyes turned red and he asked back.
“If you don't lie to her, don't lie to me, and don't lie to everyone, can I cancel it?”
Tran Nhien's face turned pale. The two stared at each other, like two cornered animals biting each other's throats. I suddenly felt very tired. That fatigue was not due to the body, but rather after seeing through a fantastic drama, even the anger gradually faded. I told my dad.
“Dad, let's go.”
Dad looked at me.
“Are you sure?”
I nodded.
“Everything that needs to be heard has been heard.”
“The rest is the Tran family's mess.”
Mom immediately caught me.
“Okay, let's go home.”
I turned around I was about to leave, but Tran Nhien once again blocked me. On his face there were still red marks left by Tran Kien Nghiep's slap, his eyes were red because they were full of blood.
“Giang Nguyet.”
I stopped walking.
“What else do you want to say?”
His throat moved slightly, his voice also lowered a lot.
“I know it's too late to say anything now.”
“But my feelings for you... are not purely calculated.”
“We've been together for so long.”
“You were also sincere.”
I looked at him and saw that his statement was even sadder than a lie.
“Ever sincere?”
"Tran Nhien, even when defending yourself, you don't dare say that you are always sincere."
His expression stopped. I continued talking.
"Your so-called sincerity is probably just being a little gentler with me in your free time."
“When you need me, I say a few sweet words.”
“When everything is revealed, you bring out that little bit of kindness to soften my heart.”
“But I'm not a trash can.”
“You can't just throw in a flower every once in a while and forget that there's all that trash inside.”
There were soft sounds of inhalation all around. Tran Nhien's eyes finally completely collapsed.
“Nguyet Nguyet.”
I took a step back.
“Don't call me that.”
“From today onwards, you are no longer qualified.”
His outstretched hand stopped in mid-air. I didn't look at him again and helped my mother walk towards the door. Giang's relatives automatically surrounded us, blocking all the oncoming eyes. The manager led the security staff and opened the side door, intending to take us out through the side hallway. But as soon as the door opened, a microphone immediately poked in through the door crack.
"Miss Giang, may I ask if you canceled the engagement because Mr. Tran and Manh Dinh have maintained an ambiguous relationship for a long time?"
The flash light flashed continuously in front of me. Mom reflexively immediately blocked in front of me. I grabbed my mother's hand and raised my head.
“I can say a few words.”
The hallway was filled with reporters. Security staff tried their best to stop the crowd, but a series of lenses were still pointed straight at me. As the flash kept flashing, I saw my reflection on the glass wall. The light pink evening gown was still neat, the makeup was still intact, only a few strands of hair were tangled. Today should have been the day I was blessed by everyone. But now, it has become a storm for everyone to watch. Dad said softly.
“Nguyet Nguyet, if you don't want to say it, don't say it.”
I shook my head.
“Dad, I want to speak for myself.”
Lawyer Tham came to stand next to me.
