Chapter 7
Chapter 7 — There Are Positions You Can Only Hold For Yourself
He softened his voice.
“Nguyet Nguyet, about the seat, I'm sorry.”
“I admit, I did not handle that matter adequately.”
“But now things have gotten to this point, if you continue to be so determined, it won't be good for uncle and aunt.”
“You go down first, let's find a quiet place and talk.”
My father suddenly spoke up.
“No need to say more.”
He handed the file bag to my mother, then turned to look at Tran Nhien.
“Collaboration project with the Tran family…”
“We of the Giang family withdraw.”
Tran Nhien's face immediately changed. Ms. Vuong Le was also stunned.
“Do you know what that means?”
"The memorandum of understanding has been signed, and the preparation work for the first phase has also been completed."
“If you say you can withdraw, you can withdraw it?”
The man in the dark suit took a step forward, his tone polite but unyielding.
“Mrs. Wang.”
“A memorandum of understanding is not a formal contract.”
"The two sides have not yet completed the appraisal process, nor have they completed the final payment plan."
“Furthermore, in the set of additional financial documents that Tran Group sent yesterday…”
“There are three key figures that do not match the bank's written response.”
“Our side has the full right to suspend cooperation.”
Below the auditorium, whispers immediately rang out. Tran Nhien's face turned from unsightly to gloomy.
“Lawyer Tham.”
“Is it appropriate to say such words here?”
The man glanced at him.
"It was Mr. Tran who proactively mentioned cooperation here first."
“If you want to use it as a card to pressure people…”
“We can only say it clearly in front of everyone…”
“It's not your card.”
I clenched the microphone in my hand, my heart beating loudly in my chest. My father had prepared in advance. He was never one to be cornered. He never wanted to put his sharpness in the market to use on his daughter's engagement day. Tran Nhien was silent for a few seconds. He suddenly burst out laughing.
“Did the Giang family already want to turn the deal?”
"Today, we used the story of Nguyet Nguyet's anger to put all the responsibility on our Tran family."
“After all…”
"The Jiang family is not the victim."
My father's eyes turned cold.
“Tran Nhien.”
“Your father never taught you that…”
"When you can't lose, why don't you be the one to turn the table over first?"
As soon as the words ended, someone at the main table suddenly stood up. Tran Nhien's father, Tran Kien Nghiep, has been sitting still without saying a word since the beginning. His face turned pale and the wine glass in his hand was placed firmly on the table.
“Lao Giang.”
“Let the children solve their own problems.”
“You bring business into this…”
“Is it too disrespectful to us, the Tran family?”
My father looked straight at him.
“When your son brought business matters to pressure my daughter…”
“Why don't you talk to the children and let them solve it themselves?”
Tran Kien Nghiep suddenly became speechless. Ms. Vuong Le quickly spoke up.
“But it was also because Giang Nguyet started the chaos first.”
“A girl held a microphone and announced an annulment right at the engagement ceremony…”
“I wonder which house can stand it?”
My mother took a step forward.
“Our Giang family can handle it.”
“As long as my daughter doesn't have to suffer dear…”
“No matter how others see it, we are not afraid.”
The bridge of my nose is stinging again. At that moment, Manh Dinh suddenly went limp and fell straight into Tran Nhien's arms.
“Brother Nhien…”
“I'm so dizzy…”
By reflex, Tran Nhien immediately hugged her. The scene once again became chaotic. Ms. Vuong Le cried out in panic and quickly ran to help.
“Quickly call the doctor!”
But Manh Dinh closed his eyes tightly, his hand tightened on Tran Nhien's sleeve and refused to let go. I stood on the stage, looking at her pale face. At that moment, the host standing next to me suddenly lowered his voice and spoke a sentence.
“Miss Giang…”
"It seems like the backstage surveillance camera just recorded the scene of Ms. Manh changing the seat nameplate herself."
MC's words were very quiet. So quiet that only me and my mother standing next to me heard it. My mother immediately raised her head to look at him.
“What did you just say?”
MC's face turned pale, as if he regretted his words. He glanced at the chaotic crowd below the stage, then lowered his voice again.
"Just now, when I went backstage to get the backup program card, Mr. Tieu Tran in charge of lighting told me."
“He said just after eleven o'clock a girl in a white dress walked into the main desk area.”
"She took Ms. Giang's name tag away, then placed Ms. Manh's name tag in the position next to Mr. Tran."
My fingertips tightened little by little. It's not that the hotel arranged it wrong. It's not like Tran Nhien was the only one who changed places voluntarily. Manh Dinh personally touched that nameplate. When she cried and said she didn't know, her heart must have been clearer than anyone else. I raised my eyes and looked down. Manh Dinh was leaning in Tran Nhien's arms, his eyes closed, but his eyelashes trembled slightly with insecurity. Ms. Vuong Le was gently patting her face, her voice filled with sadness.
“Tieu Dinh, Tieu Dinh, don't scare me.”
“It's all because there are a few people who are determined to cause trouble.”
“Such a good child was forced to become like this.”
When she said those words, she glanced at me with eyes as sharp as knives. Many guests also began to feel nervous. Someone told me to quickly take him to the hospital. Some people shook their heads and said it was really unlucky to have an engagement party like this. There were also people who looked at me with reproachful eyes again.
