Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — Transfer Rate Changed
“Just because of a transfer, you want a divorce?”
“For seven years.”
He laughed, his tone stiff: "Seven years is because you signed an agreement to support your downline. I told you before getting married that I couldn't follow you up the mountain. Now you blame me for this?"
“I blame you for editing the list.”
“If I don't fix it, you won't be able to get on.” It was as if he didn't bother pretending anymore, "The city hospital needs someone who can receive medical examination and treatment immediately, and can coordinate with the departments. You've been in the mountains for several years, only examining aching limbs and children with minor fevers. Can you keep up when you come here?"
There was a knock at the door. Liu Tieu Man stood outside holding a bowl of noodles. When he heard the phone call, his face immediately darkened.
“Doctor Khuong, your noodles.”
I take it. Co Thua is still saying: "Don't let the country people flatter you with a few words and make you think you're important. Khuong Ninh, be realistic. When you come here, your salary isn't high, your position is also lagging behind, I've had to block out so many gossips for you." Liu Tieu Man put the bowl of noodles down on the table, pointed at the phone and scolded: "Stop that fart! Doctor Khuong climbed the mountain pass and waded into the stream in the middle of the night to save people, where are you? My mother's life was saved by you?" Co Thua was stunned: "Who is next to you?" I said: "The patient's family."
"Khuong Ninh, are you letting outsiders hear about our argument now?"
Luu Tieu Man interrupted: "You even knew they were husband and wife? How did you not know when you stole someone else's food?" I took the phone back: "Tomorrow morning at ten o'clock, Civil Affairs Department." Co Thua said: "I'm not free."
“Then I'll go to the hospital to find you.”
He lowered his voice and threatened: "Khuong Ninh, you dare."
“You just see if I dare or not.”
I hung up the phone. Liu Tieu Man angrily walked around the room: "Doctor Khuong, you can't just let it go. The list belongs to the state, what does he rely on to change it?" I picked up my chopsticks, the noodles had already bloomed a bit.
"He was able to exchange it, which proves that someone allowed him to exchange it."
“Then sue.”
I ate a piece of noodles, the heat rose, and my stomach felt a little.
“Will sue.”
Luu Tieu Man sat down opposite and asked in a low voice: "Are you really divorced?"
“Really.”
"So I'll sleep here tonight, don't come home." She thought for a moment and then added, "My brother is on duty at the police station. If that man comes to cause trouble, I will call him."
I smiled: "No need." At eleven o'clock at night, Co Thua sent another photo. In the photo, my mother-in-law is sitting on the sofa holding her chest, To Van Tinh squats next to her, supporting her, her eyes red. Co Thua attached the words:
"Mom is so angry that you can hardly breathe. Are you satisfied?"
I looked for a few seconds and replied: "Take me to the hospital." He texted back very quickly.
"Are you still a doctor? You only know how to say such cold-blooded words?"
I placed the phone face down on the table. The light from the billboard outside the window flickered, shining on the jar of honey, which looked like a block of frozen amber. At one o'clock in the morning, the outside door rang again. Liu Tieu Man shouted from the hallway: "Doctor Khuong, are you sleeping yet? Someone is looking for you." I opened the door. Standing outside the door was Trieu Khai Minh - Head of the City People's Hospital office. He was wearing a black jacket, his forehead was sweaty, and he was holding a cement paper bag in his hand. Seeing me, he quickly called out: "Doctor Khuong." Liu Tieu Man is alert stood in front of me: "Who are you?" Trieu Khai Minh smiled for peace: "I'm at the City People's Hospital. Doctor Khuong, the hospital has an unexpected announcement, tomorrow morning at nine o'clock there will be a meeting to discuss the transfer list of lower-level personnel." I asked: "Who told you to come here?" He wiped his sweat with his hand: "Director." I said: "Isn't the list already finalized?" Trieu Khai Minh hesitated: "In the past, there may have been some misunderstandings in the process."
“Misunderstanding twice?”
