Chapter 13 — Weddings Without Brides

Updated 10/08/2026 4 min read

"Kieu Kieu, To Tinh's mother has to be hospitalized tomorrow! You canceled the wedding today. If something happens, can you bear it?"

“Her illness was not caused by you.”

“But her wishes were destroyed in my hands!”

To Tinh seemed to have picked up the last life-saving straw and immediately made a video call to her mother.

"Mom, please tell Ms. Tham Kieu quickly. Tell her that this is your only wish before going into the operating room."

The phone is connected, Aunt Luong appears on the screen. She was wearing pajamas and sitting by the window, her face was truly haggard, and next to her was a medicine box. Seeing how many people were in the meeting room, she was a bit stunned.

“Why are there so many people?”

To Tinh cried and held up the phone.

"The wedding is canceled. Mom, haven't you always wanted to see me marry Tram Chu? Tell her, I just want to see this wedding."

Aunt Luong frowned.

“When did Mom say she wanted to see me marry Tram Chu?”

To Tinh's cries fell silent. The entire meeting room was also silent.

“Mom, you clearly said last week that you were afraid that in this life you wouldn't be able to see me in a wedding dress.”

“Mom told me to take a wedding photo shoot.” Aunt Luong's voice was tense. "You said you wanted to ask Tram Chu to help you take a few photos together so mom could feel secure in the treatment. Mom also asked if the boy's fiancee was concerned. I said they knew about it and had already agreed."

To Tinh's hand holding the phone began to tremble.

“I… I just want to make you happy.”

“Taking someone else's wedding to make you happy?”

Aunt Luong coughed loudly and clutched the window sill.

"To Tinh, mom is about to have surgery, or else she will die today. You used my illness to force another girl to give up her husband. How can I feel secure, you tell me?"

Luc's mother's lips moved. “Miss Luong, children are just filial.”

“Being filial is not stealing.”

Aunt Luong looked straight into the camera, her eyes full of shame.

"Miss Tham, I apologize a thousand times. Today I just received a wedding invitation from a relative. I thought it was a photo collage to make it look real. I had absolutely no idea they would dare to use your hotel and wedding. You don't have to be responsible for my illness."

Just one sentence completely exposed the so-called "last wish" that the Luc family had been holding on to for the past four days. The fake resentment on To Tinh's face finally could no longer be acted on. She turned off the video and suddenly screamed at me:

"Yes, my mother didn't ask! I want to have a perfect wedding, so what?

Tram Chu owes me. We've been together for four years. If it weren't for him listening to my family's request to break up with me, the person standing in the bride's position today would have been me! Luc Tram Chu glared at her.

"You said Aunt To's illness had gotten worse and she might not be able to survive surgery."

“She has cancer, what did you say wrong?”

“You said that was her only wish.”

To Tinh cried and smirked.

“If I don't say that, will you give me the wedding?”

Luc Tram Chu's face completely lost all color. He finally understood that the deep affection that he had worked so hard to protect for so long was actually just a knife given to him by To Tinh, taking advantage of his mother's illness. But the person holding the knife slashed towards him I am still him from beginning to end. I opened the electronic wedding invitation administration page and clicked the "Stop event" button. The website asks for confirmation again.

“After stopping, all shared links will display the message: Event has been canceled.”

I click “Confirm”. When the 318 recipients reopened that wedding invitation, they would only see a single gray text:

“Event has been cancelled.”

Luc Tram Chu's phone began to vibrate. Relatives, colleagues, and partners constantly texted to ask what happened.
