Chapter 12
Chapter 12 — After He Switched Brides On The Ceremony
"Because I finally understand... it doesn't belong to me."
I looked at the file bag.
"From the beginning, it was mine."
"I know."
"But now I don't need it anymore."
His knuckles turned white.
"I know."
This was the first time he didn't ask why. In the exhibition hall, the host's voice rang out.
"Welcome to Te Ngan Wedding Exhibition. All ceremonies today must be mutually confirmed by the bride and groom. If one party does not agree, the entire process will immediately stop."
Applause echoed throughout the auditorium. Ta Van Chau stood outside the door, quietly watching the flow of people passing by inside. A young girl is trying on a ring. Her boyfriend bowed his head and carefully resized it. The girl smiled and asked:
"Isn't it beautiful?"
The man replied:
"It's okay if you like it."
Ta Van Chau's eyes stayed there for a long time. Never left.
"Aren't you leaving yet?"
He didn't answer right away. Lips moved slightly. Very small voice.
"Dung Chi... are you living well now?"
"Do you... still remember me?"
There was just a glimmer of hope in his eyes. I keep saying:
"I remember you changed me from the altar."
"I remember the whole hall applauding that day."
"Remember what I said... it's just a game."
That light quickly disappeared. He bowed his head and smiled softly. Doesn't make a sound. Only the shoulders trembled slightly.
"I miss it every day."
"That's your problem."
"I know."
He put his hands on his chest, his breathing became rapid, his forehead lightly resting on the edge of the table. A few people around turned their heads to look. I didn't step forward to help him. When he stood up straight, his eyes were red.
"Do you... hate me?"
"No regrets."
"Because you're not worth my time continuing to waste."
He gently closed his eyes. The file bag in his hand fell to the ground. The ring rolled out, rotated twice on the tile floor and stopped right in front of my shoe. He bent down to pick it up. When the tip of the finger touched the ring, the movement suddenly stopped.
"Can I ask you one more time?"
"If I started pursuing you all over again... would you give me a chance?"
"Even if it takes me many years?"
"Your time... is not my debt."
He was still squatting there. The hand tightens the ring. A long time later. He just put the ring back in the file bag.
"I got it."
He actually turned around and left. When he reached the door of the exhibition hall, he suddenly stopped and looked back at me.
"The day of the wedding... I once said that things that are dirty are no longer needed."
"I will remember for the rest of my life."
"It's okay to remember."
After he left, the host walked up next to me.
"General Manager Dung, the opening ceremony is about to begin."
I nodded slightly and walked under the flower gate. Light shines down from above. The scent of white roses mixed with the faint scent of wood wafted through the auditorium. Someone clapped. Someone raised their phone to take a photo. I don't wear a wedding dress. I wore a neat white suit, with a restored brooch on my chest. The break on the silver needle is still intact. I didn't cover it up at all. The host gave me the microphone.
"General Director Dung, what do you want to send to the guests attending the exhibition today?"
I took the microphone and looked towards the crowd outside the flower gate.
"A wedding is not something this person can change The other person completes it."
"The ring doesn't just have to be taken away by someone and then returned and it will return to its original state."
"If there is someone who makes you stand outside the door of your own life..."
"Then leave."
The auditorium was silent for a moment. Immediately after that, applause spread from the front row to the last row. That applause was for me. I put down the microphone and walked out of the flower gate. Outside the door... There's no one waiting for me. There is no groom. There is no substitute bride. No one reached out to ask me to turn back. I went to the end of the exhibition hall and opened the ground-level glass door. The wind rushed in from outside, gently shaking the white petals on my chest. I raised my hand to hold the brooch. Then turned around and walked back to his own office. The contract for the new project is already placed on the table. My name was left in the signature position. I picked up the pen. Write down the last stroke. I just change myself for the rest of my life.
