Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — My mother-in-law made a will to steal my property, leaving the whole family empty-handed
I slowly stood up, looking down at her from above.
“Perhaps you misunderstood something.”
“Who is taking care of this house?”
“Do you want to know?”
My voice was very calm, but each word was cold as ice, hitting straight into their hearts. Chu Cam froze, his lips trembled with anger but he couldn't say anything. I didn't look at her anymore, just turned around and picked up my bag.
“From today, I own my car.”
“My house, I will take it back.”
“As for my money, I will get every penny back.”
“You guys… take care of yourselves.”
Having finished speaking, under the stunned eyes of the three of them, I walked out of that house. This one time… I won't turn back. I walked in the sunlight, it was three years ago that I felt for the first time that this light had temperature, could touch my skin without feeling cold like before. I didn't go far, I just went straight to the apartment complex's basement parking lot. My white Mercedes was still sitting in the parking lot, its body was clean, its windows clearly reflected my face - a face so calm it was strange. Not happy, not sad, just... there's nothing left to lose. I opened my bag and took out the spare key that had been lying in the secret compartment for the past three years, never used. That was the last thing I kept for myself — my last bit of dignity. I pressed the unlock button, the car's lights flashed and a clear "click" sound echoed in the quiet space of the basement. At that moment, a scream of both surprise and excitement rang out in the distance.
"Brother! Sister-in-law! This car is really cool!"
Ly Vy's voice. She was wearing a brand new dress, holding a phone in her hand, standing in front of my car taking pictures non-stop, next to her were two female friends with admiring eyes. Seeing me appear, she thought I intentionally brought the car to give her a "surprise". She happily ran back, intending to hug me as if she had received the gift she deserved.
"Sister-in-law is the best! You know, I love you the most!"
I looked at her, my eyes cold as water, clearly seeing every trace of greed sparkling in those eyes that were shining with excitement. Without saying a word, I opened the car door and sat directly in the driver's seat. The smile on Ly Vy's face immediately stiffened, as if someone had strangled her mid-sentence.
“Sister-in-law… you… what are you doing?”
I started the car, the low sound of the engine rang out, smooth and powerful like music that kept people awake. I rolled down the window and looked at her, my voice calm.
“Didn't you just get your driver's license?”
She was stunned, then nodded reflexively.
“That's right… that's right…”
I tilted my head slightly, my eyes did not waver.
"So you probably know, without the car owner's permission, touching another person's car... is against the law."
My voice wasn't loud, but it was loud enough for the three of them to hear every word clearly. Ly Vy's face immediately turned red, then turned purple as if she had been slapped in front of her friends. The two girls' eyes behind them changed from admiration to enjoyment of watching the show.
"Sister-in-law, what do you mean? Isn't this car yours?"
“My mother told me, this car is for me to use in the future!”
She still stubbornly argued, still immersed in the beautiful dream that Chu Cam drew for her. I laughed, a cold smile.
“Then call your mother and ask clearly.”
“Ask when this car came back my family's city."
“Ask who is listed in the car purchase contract.”
“And in the vehicle registration, who is the owner of the vehicle?”
Ly Vy was speechless when I asked her, her face changed continuously from red to white, then from white to blue. The two girls behind began to cover their mouths and giggle. What do people fear the most? It means being exposed in front of others.
“You… you just wait!”
She was so angry that she was shaking, pointed at me, and let out a weak threat. Then she did something so stupid that it made me laugh. She spread her arms, blocking the front of the car.
"If you don't make it clear today, don't leave!"
She still thought I would be the same as before, backing down because of the so-called "family". But this time, she was wrong. I looked at her, my eyes unwavering. My foot lightly stepped on the accelerator, the car slowly moved forward, slowly but without hesitation. The distance between the front of the car and her knees... is getting closer and closer. Ly Vy's eyes widened, her initial confidence shattered, replaced by clear panic. She instinctively started to back away. When the distance was less than ten centimeters, she finally couldn't bear it anymore, screamed and jumped aside. I didn't look at her again. The car drove straight out of the basement. Sunlight poured into the car compartment, covering my body with a layer of gentle warmth. I lowered the window, letting the wind blow my hair. Then take out your phone. I called the bank switchboard, the voice was calm and scary.
“Hello, I want to block my bank card.”
“Yes, it's my salary card, lock it immediately, immediately.”
Cut off Chu Cam's source of money. This… is just the first step. I drove straight to Thien Duyet area. The dowry house... is also the most important asset in my name. That is where I truly belong. Over the past three years, the number of times I've returned... can be counted on one hand. Chu Cam always said that once a daughter gets married, she is like water. Once she has her husband's family, her mother's family are just relatives. She brought that logic... directly onto me. As if if I married Ly Hao, this house would automatically be returned to the Ly family. Thinking about this, I just find it funny. The apartment complex is very quiet, clean, and the space is so fresh that it calms people's hearts. I parked my car under the building, raised my head and looked up at the familiar eighth-floor window. A feeling of peace arose in my heart that had been gone for a long time. I stepped into the elevator and went straight upstairs. Standing in front of the door of apartment 801, I took a deep breath and took out the key. Plugs into the lock... but can't turn it. I paused for a second. Try again...still doesn't work. The lock... has been changed. A thought flashed in my head. I put my ear to the door and listened carefully. There's a sound inside. The sound of television... and the sound of a woman's laughter. Don't just want to take my car. She... moved into my house. Really good. I didn't knock on the door, nor did I get angry. Just take two steps back, lean against the opposite wall, and take out your phone. I called twice. The first call is to the locksmith.
