Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — My mother-in-law made a will to steal my property, leaving the whole family empty-handed
My countdown... was like a sword hanging above their heads, each passing second was gradually cutting off the last layer of dignity of the so-called "family". Every ticking sound... makes the atmosphere more stuffy. Chu Cam was the first to fall. She was not the type of person to be patient, and could not accept her authority being challenged so openly. She jumped up and pointed straight at my face, spit flying.
"Hua Tinh! Don't think I'm afraid of you!"
“Today you dare to chase us away, tomorrow I will go straight to your company to cause trouble!”
“I will tell your leader what kind of filial daughter-in-law you are!”
“I'll see if you have any face left to live!”
This is her familiar trick. Threaten, make a fuss, force others to back down. In the past, I always gave in because of the so-called face. But now... I don't even need my face anymore. I raised my eyes to look at her.
“You just go.”
“I welcome it.”
"It's also convenient for my leaders and colleagues to see how I've lived these past three years."
"Let them judge how noble a mother-in-law wants to include her daughter-in-law's dowry in her will... after all."
My voice was so calm that it was cold. That calmness... was like a bucket of cold water poured straight into Chu Cam, causing her to stop. She clearly didn't expect it... I was willing to bet my job. A person who has nothing to fear... also has no weaknesses. Her intimidation... was completely useless. Ly Hao immediately responded and changed to another tactic. He walked closer to me, his voice softened, trying to appear soft.
“Tieu Tinh, don't be like that, can we talk properly?”
“I know my mother was wrong, I'll apologize on her behalf.”
"But we are husband and wife, our three years of love... could it all be fake?"
"Did you forget when we first got married, you said you wanted to spend the rest of your life with me?"
He started talking about the past. Memories that once shook me. If it were yesterday… maybe I would have wavered. But now… my heart is as cold as ice.
“Ly Hao, don't you find these words very funny right now?”
“When your mother wanted to give my house and car to your sister, where were you?”
“When I called for help, you said 'it's no big deal', where were you at that time?”
“Your so-called feelings… are for me to make unlimited concessions and feed the greed of your entire family?”
“If that's the case... then I don't need that kind of love anymore.”
Every word I said... was like slapping him in the face. Ly Hao's face was sometimes white, sometimes red. The look that softened at first... quickly turned into anger and shame.
"Okay! Hua Tinh, you're good!"
“Don't think that after getting divorced, life will be easy!”
“We also spent money to renovate this house, and my mother also took care of you for three years!”
“Those things… must be calculated clearly!”
He began to "calculate". I laughed.
“I'm still waiting for you to say this.”
"How much did it cost to repair the house that year? Do you have a receipt? I'll pay you ten times more."
“As for your mother taking care of me…”
My eyes glanced over Chu Cam's stiff face.
“For the past three years… is it her who takes care of me, or is it my salary card that takes care of your whole family?”
"We'll go to court to figure this out slowly."
I mentioned the court again. That is their fatal weakness. Because they know... once the law comes out, they don't have any chance. Time passes every second. The countdown… only twenty minutes left. The first person who couldn't stand it was Ly Vy. She looked at her pile of clothes, bags, and cosmetics, tears immediately falling.
"Mom! Brother! I don't want to go!"
“What should I do with my things now!”
Her cry... was like the last drop of water overflowing a cup. Chu Cam and Ly Hao finally understood. Today... I absolutely will not back down. If they hesitate, they will really be kicked out. Chu Cam glared at me, his eyes seemed to want to tear me apart. But still turned around and rushed into the room and started cleaning up. Ly Hao's face darkened and he quietly packed his things. Only Ly Vy... cried and made arrangements slowly. The whole house became chaotic. But inside my heart... it was strangely quiet. While cleaning up, Chu Cam still didn't forget to play tricks. She secretly took the jewelry box from my dressing table... stuffed it into her pocket. Inside is the wedding gold set my mother gave me. I saw it all… but didn't say it.
