Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — Pregnant for 280 Days, I Used a Notebook to Reclaim My Whole Life
I leaned my back against the door. Gently close your eyes. I also wrote that curse in the notes section. Not out of self-pity. That's also proof. The next morning. Co Thua Trach woke up. The memory of last night was almost completely broken. He sat at the dining table drinking coffee. The facial expression is very unsightly.
"I was so drunk last night."
"If you say anything, don't take it to heart."
I put the plate of fried eggs down in front of me.
“You said I don't have a job, I'm pregnant, I'm divorced and I have nowhere to go.”
His movements stopped. I continued:
"I also told you to be a little more realistic. If you make a fuss, the only person who will suffer will be you."
Co Thua Trach raised his head and looked at me.
“You're drunk.”
"Your tolerance to alcohol is not good, but when analyzing, you are still very alert."
He put down his coffee cup.
“Do you really have to tell me that?”
I cut the omelet into pieces. The yolk slowly flows out.
“I'm just repeating what you said verbatim.”
He looked at me for a few seconds. The tone suddenly softened a bit.
"Tri Dao, it's not like I'm ignoring you. Now the company is in an important stage, money has to turn around. Once the baby is born, I'll make arrangements."
It sounds softer than before. But I no longer entrusted my whole life to him because of the word "arrangement".
“How do you plan to arrange it?”
He replied:
"You just give birth first, don't think about nonsense anymore. From now on, you stay home to take care of the child, I'll be in charge of making money, wouldn't that be great?"
My hand holding the fork stopped in mid-air.
“I stay at home to take care of the children, so who will pay for living expenses?”
Co Thua Trach's impatience appeared again.
“It's time to figure it out.”
I smiled softly.
“It's that time again.”
He frowned.
“Why is it getting harder and harder for me to talk now?”
I don't answer. Because my phone just in time received an appointment reminder message from the hospital. Next week is the ultrasound of the fetus. Family members must come along to sign the confirmation. I passed the message to Co Thua Trach.
“Next Tuesday morning, I must go.”
He glanced over.
“I will try.”
I raised my head to look at him.
“Not trying.”
“Which is mandatory.”
His expression immediately darkened.
“Giang Tri Dao, don't order me.”
I looked straight into his eyes and slowly said each word:
“That's my child.”
Co Thua Trach was about to open his mouth. The phone suddenly rang. See caller name. He immediately stood up and went to the balcony. The moment the glass door closes. I saw the annoyed expression on his face disappear. Even the voice. Also brings a smile.
"What's up?"
I sat at the dining table. Slowly put the fork down. Outside on the balcony. He turned his back to me, deliberately lowering his voice. But I still heard one sentence clearly.
“Don't make trouble anymore, she's at home.”
The balcony glass door was covered with a thin layer of steam. Co Thua Trach's back is printed on the glass. Shoulders are still straight. But the voice was strangely gentle.
“I told you, tonight is inconvenient.”
The other end of the line still seemed to refuse to let go. He lowered his voice even further.
“She is pregnant, don't cause trouble at this time.”
I sat in front of the dining table. The fork in my hand was cold. The edge of the omelet is frozen with a layer of fat. The yolk slowly spread all over the plate. I didn't step forward. Also Don't knock on the glass door. Just quietly open the recording function on the phone. Then place it under the table mat. Co Thua Trach said:
“Wait until I finish arranging it.”
“Be a good girl.”
“Let me worry about money.”
Final words. Like a needle sticking straight into my ear. Money matters. It's not that he doesn't know how to worry. The balcony door opened. The smile on his face had completely disappeared. See I'm still sitting there. He frowned slightly.
“What are you looking at me for?”
I put down the fork.
“Customer?”
His expression remained unchanged.
“Female customer?”
He looked at me coldly.
“Giang Tri Dao, now every day besides staring at me, what else can you do?”
I bowed my head and smiled softly.
"I still know how to go for prenatal checkups on schedule."
Co Thua Trach picked up his coat.
“I'm too lazy to argue with you.”
“Are you going next Tuesday?”
His footsteps stopped at the mysterious entrance.
“I told you, I will try.”
“The doctor said he needs a family member to sign a confirmation.”
“The hospital doesn't only recognize husbands.”
He finished changing his shoes. The voice was filled with discomfort.
“Can't your mother go?”
I looked at him.
“Last month my mother had surgery.”
“You know that.”
Co Thua Trach's hand was on the door handle. Pause for two seconds.
“Then find a friend.”
The door slammed shut. In the dining room. Only the smell of cold coffee remained. I saved the recording. Name the file with the correct date. Then call the hospital. Confirm the examination process again next week.
"It's best for you to let your husband go with you. If the test results have problems that need to be discussed, having family members there will be more convenient."
I asked softly:
“If my husband doesn't come, can I sign it myself?”
The other end of the line was silent for a moment. The voice also calmed down.
"Okay. But it's best for you to have someone go with you. The test in the middle of pregnancy is quite long, don't let me work hard."
After hanging up. I looked at my contacts for a long time. I called Duong Thanh, my college friend. She picked up the phone very quickly.
"Tri Dao? You finally remember me?"
Her voice was still as cheerful as before. There's still the bridge of my nose. Suddenly stinging.
"Are you free next Tuesday? Come to the hospital with me."
The other end of the line was silent for two seconds.
“Where is Co Thua Trach?”
I don't answer. Duong Thanh's voice suddenly lowered.
“Not going again?”
I replied softly:
“He's busy.”
“Are you so busy that you can't even go to the ultrasound of your child's deformities?”
I tightened my grip on the phone. Fingertips turn white.
“Thanh Thanh...”
“I don't want to talk about this over the phone.”
Duong Thanh did not ask any more.
“Okay, let's go.”
I told her the appointment time.
“Wait for me, I'll buy breakfast and bring it over.”
That moment. The string in my heart that had been tight for a long time finally loosened. But after loosening up. What's left is not relief. It's an even deeper feeling of fatigue.
