Chapter 10
Chapter 10 — Mother-in-law Tests Daughter-in-law's Heart
“Ninh Uyen.” “Did you hear me?” Ninh Uyen blinked slightly. The corners of Tran Nghien's eyes immediately became wet. He reached out and stroked her forehead, moving carefully as if touching thin ice. "Don't say anything." "The doctor said your throat is very swollen, just take care of it first." Ninh Uyen's eyes slowly moved down. She wanted to ask about the child. Tran Nghien understood immediately and squeezed her wrist: "My heart is fine for now." "The doctor said we still have to continue monitoring." "Both you and the baby are safe." Tears welled up in Ninh Uyen's eyes. She didn't cry out loud, just let her tears wet a patch of pillow. Tran Nghien bowed his head, pressing his forehead against the back of her hand. "I'm sorry." "Ninh Uyen, I'm sorry." She wanted to shake her head, but she didn't have any strength left. Tran Nghien's voice was choked: "You shouldn't force me to be patient over and over again." "You shouldn't make excuses for your mother." "You shouldn't leave me at home alone to face your mother." Ninh Uyen closed her eyes. She had actually been waiting for these words for a long time. But at this moment, there was no relief in her heart, only empty space left after all the fatigue. Outside the hospital room door came the sound of arguing and whispering. "I'm his mother-in-law, what's wrong with me coming in to see how he's doing?" "The doctor told the patient to rest and recuperate." "I just took a look." Tran Nghien suddenly raised his head. Ninh Uyen's fingers suddenly tightened. Tran Nghien immediately stood up and whispered: "Let's go out and see." He walked to open the door. Ton Que Phan stood outside, carrying a pair of thermal cages, eyes swollen, and hair disheveled. As soon as she saw Tran Nghien, she quickly craned her neck to peek in: "Is he awake?" "Let me see how it is." Tran Nghien blocked the door. "She doesn't want to see mom." Ton Que Phan's face was unsightly: "He hasn't said a word yet, how do you know he doesn't want to see mom?" Tran Nghien stared at her: "Because her hand holding my hand is shaking." Ton Que Phan was stunned. Her eyes went over Tran Nghien's shoulder and saw Ninh Uyen lying on the hospital bed. Ninh Uyen's face was pale, her lips were still swollen, the back of her hand was full of IV needles, her whole body was like a thin piece of paper soaked in rainwater. Panic flashed through the bottom of Ton Que Phan's eyes, but soon it was overshadowed by self-pity. "Mom, stew some soup." "Didn't the doctor say his body was weak?" Tran Nghien glanced at the thermos. "Take it away." Ton Que Phan's voice was high-pitched: "I'll stew for three hours." "There's nothing in here." "Are you still afraid that mom will harm it?" As soon as he said those words, the hallway suddenly became silent. Tran Nghien's face was cold without any warmth. "You know yourself, what you did was harming her." Ton Que Phan choked: "I didn't mean that." "Last night I was also scared." "I stayed up all night." "My heart was also very upset." Tran Nghien looked at her and suddenly asked: "What are you upset about?" Ton Que Phan was stunned. "Of course I'm worried about him and the baby." Tran Nghien Nghien curled his lips, but there was no smile.
