Chapter 14
Chapter 14 — Mother-in-law Tests Daughter-in-law's Heart
“I came to force her to shut up.” Tran Nguyet choked, her face turned pale. She glanced at Ninh Uyen, her tone finally tinged with anger. "Ninh Uyen, are you just watching her argue with her family like that?" "You don't say a word now, are you very proud in your heart?" Ninh Uyen raised her eyes. She couldn't say much, just slowly picked up the phone and typed into the notes section. Every time I press a key, my fingers seem to drain some of their strength. Tran Nghien intended to help her, but she gently pushed him away. She turned the screen towards Tran Nguyet. There is only one sentence on it. *If the person lying here today was you, would you advise yourself not to make a fuss?* Tran Nguyet stared at that line, the bottom of her eyes flashed with embarrassment. It was as if someone had stripped off her veil in a crowded place. Her face turned from white to red, then from red to white. "Why is this person so vindictive?" Tran Nghien turned around quickly. "Get out." Tran Nguyet still wanted to say more. The nurse outside the door heard the movement and walked over again. "The patient needs a quiet space." "If family members continue to disturb the patient's rest, please leave the hospital room." Tran Nguyet gritted her teeth, picked up the fruit basket. "Okay, I'll go." "Don't beg me from now on." She turned and walked out the door. The sound of high heels pounding in the hallway, each sound was heavy. The hospital room was finally quiet again. Tran Nghien closed the door and returned to the bed. He looked at the needle stuck in the back of Ninh Uyen's hand, then looked at her pale face, his voice lowered: "I've already contacted the lawyer." Ninh Uyen's eyelashes moved slightly. Tran Nghien grabbed her hand. "I know you don't want to face these things now." "But the evidence must be kept." "Leftover dumplings, trash bags, videos, medical records, I will keep them carefully." Ninh Uyen looked at him for a moment. She typed on the phone: *Your mother will hate you even more.* After Tran Nghien read, her eyes turned red. "Who she hates is her business." "I can't let you continue to pay the price for her mistakes." Ninh Uyen didn't type any more words. She is too tired. My eyelids were heavy as if they were hanging soggy cotton balls. But as soon as she fell asleep, Tran Nghien's phone rang again. The screen displays Ton Que Phan. Tran Nghien glanced over, not listening. The bell went off and then rang again, continuously. The third time, he directly turned on the speakerphone. Ton Que Phan's crying voice immediately rushed out. "Tran Nghien, your sister told you to ask for a lawyer?" "Are you crazy?" "Do you really want to send this biological mother to jail?" Tran Nghien coldly asked: "When you threw away the dumplings yesterday, why didn't you think I was your son?" The other end of the line suddenly went silent. A few seconds later, Ton Que Phan's voice trembled: "Are you following me?" Tran Nghien looked at the phone screen, his eyes darkened. "Mom, right now the thing you should think about most is not whether I followed you or not." "But why do you want to destroy the evidence." Ton Que Phan's breathing was disturbed. The next second, she suddenly raised her voice: "Mom, what did you destroy the evidence for?" "Ninh Uyen ate those dumplings herself!" "Don't you think about throwing all that dirty water on my head!" Before Tran Nghien could open his mouth, the sound of rapid footsteps suddenly came from outside the hospital room door. The nurse pushed the door open and walked in, her face much more serious than just now. "The patient's family, the obstetrics department asked you to come over there immediately." "My heart is beating abnormally again."11 Tran Nghien's face instantly changed. He hung up the phone, bent down and hugged Ninh Uyen's shoulder. "Don't be afraid, I'll go with you." The nurse pushed the wheelchair over.
