Chapter 12 — My Driver is No. 1 Young Master in the Capital

Updated 06/09/2026 6 min read

After the meeting with the seven senior brothers, the relationship between Bach Duong and Bach Tan entered a new phase - no longer two strangers just acting in front of outsiders, but two people who are gradually learning to trust each other, even though both still keep their own most important secrets.

Evenings of cooking together, watching an old movie, or simply sitting next to each other reading a book in silence, gradually become the moments both look forward to after a long, tiring day with different roles in society. Bach Duong realized that he was used to saving the best portion of rice for Bach Tan, and Bach Tan always remembered to bring back her favorite chrysanthemum tea every time she passed by a familiar store.

Bach Duong begins to notice more unusual things about Bach Tan that she previously ignored because she was too busy with her new life. The way he handled the situation during the meeting with her senior brother was not at all like that of a normal driver - his composure, ability to improvise, and especially his sharp eyes when assessing the situation, all exuded the temperament of someone who was used to making important decisions, not someone who was only used to driving passenger cars.

One afternoon, while cleaning the small office that Bach Tan often used to "report driver income" every night, Bach Duong accidentally saw an open laptop, the screen displayed a complex financial chart with billions of dong in numbers, and a few documents titled "Shareholder Report — Viet Cuong Group" that she glanced at before realizing she shouldn't look.

She quickly left the room, her heart beating fast because of this unexpected discovery. Viet Cuong Group - one of the largest business groups in the capital, a name that even a descendant like her who lives quite separate from the business world has heard with respect. An ordinary technology vehicle driver cannot have access to such high-level internal documents.

She didn't say anything to Bach Tan about this discovery, in accordance with the no-prying rule that they both agreed on, but in her heart, a hypothesis began to form, similar to what Bach Tan experienced when discovering her true family background.

One evening, when Bach Duong accidentally mentioned that she had almost been assaulted by a drunk patient at the clinic a few years ago, Bach Tan quietly memorized the address of that clinic, silently asking Dang Huu Khiem to arrange an additional layer of discreet security without her knowing. He didn't want her to feel monitored or lose her freedom, but his instinct to protect the people he cared about had grown to the point where he couldn't sit still in the face of even the smallest risks.

As for Bach Tan, his investigation work also gradually progressed significantly thanks to indirect support from Dinh Bao Long - Bach Duong's fifth senior brother, a leading technology and cyber security expert. Although she didn't know who she was helping, Dinh Bao Long accidentally shared with Bach Duong some advanced financial data analysis techniques in an intimate conversation, which she then passed on to Bach Tan in the name of "a friend in the technology industry".

"If you suspect someone is concealing dodgy financial transactions, you should try to cross-analyze travel schedules and when the transactions took place." Bach Duong said one evening, when Bach Tan was vaguely complaining about "a friend who was having trouble with his business" — his way of disguising his real investigation. "If someone is always absent at exactly the time suspicious transactions occur, it cannot be a coincidence."

Bach Tan looked at her, surprised by this sharp suggestion. He did not expect that a medical descendant would have such a sharp analytical and logical mind. "Where did you learn that from? That doesn't sound like medical or martial arts knowledge at all."

"I know some good people in the technology field." Bach Duong replied vaguely, not wanting to reveal more about Dinh Bao Long. "Sometimes different knowledge can complement each other in unexpected ways."

That suggestion turned out to be an important key. When Bach Tan asked Dang Huu Khiem to apply cross-analysis between schedules and transactions, they discovered a distinctly suspicious pattern — each time there was an unusual transfer of money from a sub-account related to Luong Ba Tuong, it coincided with his own "unscheduled" business trips to a neighboring city, where a shell company they had previously suspected was located.

"Here it is." Dang Huu Khiem spoke on the phone, his voice mixed with excitement and tension. "We have found a direct link. But young master, we need more concrete evidence before we can act, otherwise Vice President Luong will quickly erase all traces and deny all accusations."

"Continue to collect evidence." Bach Tan ordered, his voice sharp and full of determination. "But be more careful than ever. After what happened to Bach Nhan, I don't want anyone else to be in danger because of this investigation."

That night, when returning home, Bach Tan looked at Bach Duong sitting in the living room reading a book with a different look than before - not just simple respect and affection, but also a deep gratitude for her unintentional but important contributions to the investigation whose true existence she did not even know.

"What are you reading?" He asked, sitting down next to her.

"An ancient medical book, recording rare poisons." Bach Duong replied, without raising his head. "After Bach Nhan's incident, I want to find out more about any similar poisons that may appear, to prevent them in advance if necessary."

That thoughtfulness deeply touched Bach Tan. He realized that, even though he did not know clearly about the silent war he was participating in, Bach Duong was still silently preparing to protect his family with his own abilities, without anyone asking.

He watched her painstakingly note down each detoxification formula in the margins of the book, her eyes focused intensely under the warm table lamp light, and suddenly realized that this simple moment was more precious than any lavish party he had ever attended as a young master of a corporation. Perhaps, this is the simple happiness that a person like him who always has to carry family pressure on his shoulders never dares to dream of.

"Thank you." He spoke, his voice sincere, his eyes filled with a deep appreciation that he had never shown to anyone since the beginning of his lonely double life. "For everything I did, even though I didn't know the reason behind it."

Bach Duong looked up at him, a bit confused by that unexpected and meaningful thank you. "You say that as if I'm helping you more than you let on."

Bach Tan smiled, neither denying nor confirming, just silently holding her hand naturally, a gesture that neither of them had ever done before except when they needed to act in front of others. Bach Duong did not withdraw her hand, letting his warm hand hold hers in silence. Both of them felt a connection that was silently growing, far beyond what the initial three-month marriage contract could define.

Sitting together in that silence, Bach Duong suddenly remembered the moment she sat on the technology car that night, so frustrated and hurt that she just wanted to prove something for the whole world to see. She never thought that impulsive decision would lead her to such a warm and honest place, with a man that she could no longer deny that she was gradually falling in love with.

"Do you think," she asked softly, her small voice as if she were talking more to herself than to him, "is three months enough for one person to truly understand the other? Sometimes I feel like I know more about you than anyone I've known in the past twenty-seven years, but sometimes I feel like there's still a whole world I've never touched on you."

Bach Tan gently squeezed her hand, his eyes looked out the window where the moonlight was rising. "I don't know if three months is enough. But I know, I don't want this time to pass too quickly."

That answer made Bach Duong's heart tremble slightly, a feeling she thought she would never allow herself to experience again after the shock of her old marriage.
