Chapter 6
Chapter 6 — On my first day as Director, I was kicked out of the cafeteria by the resident doctor
Chapter 10 That message was sent at 1:42 p.m. I did not answer, nor did I investigate the phone number. It's not time yet. At three o'clock in the afternoon, the atmosphere in the institute changed. People passing by in the hallway looked at me differently than two days ago. The previous two days were about curiosity and exploration. Today there's something else. Some people agree with me, some people laugh at me. At four o'clock in the afternoon, Han Man came to find me, bringing two pieces of news.
“First, this afternoon To Nha Lam stood crying at the faculty door.”
"Crying for nearly 40 minutes. The nurses advised her, she told Director Co not to let her go on the operating table, which was equivalent to cutting off her career. She said she didn't do anything wrong, just because she sat in a chair, she was targeted."
I said nothing.
“The second news is more important.” Han Man lowered his voice, "At 2:30 p.m., several Department Heads of the Surgery Department just had afternoon tea together. Head of Ton Department - Department of General Surgery, Head of Code Department - Urology Surgery, Head of Pre-Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Department, and even Director Phuong. The four of them sat together for more than an hour."
“What are we talking about?”
"I don't know specifically. But when I went out, Dean Ton said something to someone in his department."
“He said, ‘The new official takes office with dignity, after lighting three fires, he will be obedient again’.”
I slowly leaned back in the chair. The four deans of surgical departments have joined hands in an alliance. Phuong Tri Vien's relationships are stronger than I thought.
“You asked me to help someone.”
“Secretary of the Party Committee, Mr. Liu.”
Han Man nodded and went out. Half an hour later, I sat in the office of Party Secretary Liu Zhenghe. Luu Chinh Hoa is 61 years old, two years away from retirement, and is the type of person who has experienced all the ups and downs.
“Tieu Co, sit down.”
He poured me a cup of tea.
“It's been three days, how do you feel?”
“You've probably heard it all.”
He smiled, not denying it.
"I heard about the cafeteria. I heard about the exam. I also know about the Deans of the Department of Surgery gathering this afternoon."
“So Secretary Liu thinks I did the right thing or the wrong thing?”
Luu Chinh Hoa picked up a cup of tea and took a sip.
“Right or wrong doesn't matter, the key is what you plan to do next.”
“I want to hear your opinion.”
“My opinion is very simple.” He put down the tea cup, "Phuong Tri Vien, this person, is good at surgery, makes good money for the department, and has a very good reputation with patients. These things are all true. But the problem is management."
His reason is not something that happens in a day or two, the previous Director is not that he doesn't know, but just doesn't want to touch it."
“Why don't you want to touch?”
"Because he alone is responsible for 30% of the hospital's surgical operations. If he touches him, the number of operations will decrease, and the hospital's revenue and ranking will all be affected."
“Should we just leave him alone in the department?”
Liu Zhenghe glanced at me.
"Tieu Co, you are a smart person, you must know that there are things that cannot be black and white. Phuong Tri Vien does have a problem, but if you handle it too harshly, the surgeons will form a group to oppose it, and in the end, the passive one will be you."
I did not answer him.
“Secretary Liu, I want to investigate something and need your help.”
“To Nha Lam's entire talent attraction approval dossier, including documents The original was archived in the Human Resources Department at that time.”
Luu Chinh Hoa's eyelids twitched.
“To what extent do you intend to investigate?”
“Investigation to the end.”
He was silent for more than ten seconds.
“Okay. I will ask the Human Resources Department to coordinate with you. But Tieu Co, I'll tell you the truth."
“Tell me.”
"You investigate this matter, in the end what you find out may not be just To Nha Lam's problem."
I looked at him.
"There may be other violations in Phuong Tri Vien's personnel approval." He looked at me, his eyes very calm, "Are you mentally prepared for that?"
“I'm ready.”
“He is your husband.”
“In this room, he is the Vice Chairman of the Department of Bones and Joints.”
Luu Chinh Hoa looked at me for a long time. Then nodded.
“Okay. If you need any assistance, just find me directly."
Coming out of the Secretary's room, at the end of the hallway there was a person standing. To Nha Lam. She didn't wear a blouse, but changed into plain clothes, her eyes were red, but she stood very straight. The moment she saw me, she didn't hide or bow her head. She looked straight at me, moved her lips a few times, and finally uttered a sentence.
“Director Co, you are taking revenge on me.”
I stopped walking.
“You're angry at Director Phuong, you keep targeting me.”
She took a step forward.
“Do you think you can solve the problem if you investigate me? Do you think if you don't let me on the operating table, I will leave?"
Her voice echoed in the empty hallway.
“Let me tell you, what kind of person is Director Phuong, not the turn of someone who just arrived three days like you think. Do you know how much he has contributed to this hospital? For the past few years, I've been sitting in an office in the province, and he's here alone..."
