Chapter 8
Chapter 8 — On my first day as Director, I was kicked out of the cafeteria by the resident doctor
Chapter 11 I hung up the phone. The three people in the hallway were still looking at me, but I only looked at Phuong Tri Vien.
“Next Monday the inspection team of the Provincial Health Committee will go to Hai Thanh No. 1 People's Hospital.”
Phuong Tri Vien's body staggered a bit. To Nha Lam had not yet had time to react to what that meant, but Phuong Tri Vien understood. The inspection team came not to check for medical complications, nor to buy medicine. It's a human resources management inspector. This inspection was planned three months ago and has nothing to do with my taking office. But it is related to four sets of talent attraction documents that Phuong Tri Vien had a hand in.
“Director Phuong.” I said, “You have five days left.”
"What to do these five days, you decide for yourself. Whether to proactively present it clearly to the inspection team, or wait for people to reveal it, it's up to you."
Phuong Tri Vien's lips trembled.
“Thanh Ninh, this is not as serious as you think…”
"You're the Deputy Chief Doctor, you don't need me to teach you what to do."
I turned around and left. Han Man waited for me at the office door.
“Director Co, I heard everything in the hallway just now.”
“So you probably heard it too, next week the inspection team is coming.”
Han Man nodded.
“What do you need me for?”
“Reorganize these four sets of talent attraction files, scan the archived originals, and prepare all accompanying documents that the inspection team will request.”
"In addition, from tomorrow, the surgery scheduling of the Department of Bones and Joints will be directly managed by the Department of Medical Education, the Department Head only has the right to comment."
Han Man hesitated for a second.
“Headmaster Phuong will object.”
“What qualifications does he have to object?”
Han Man did not say more and turned around to do it. That night, I still didn't go home. Lying on the sofa in the office all night. At two o'clock in the morning, Phuong Tri Vien sent a text message.
“Thanh Ninh, please, give me a chance to explain.”
I looked at the ceiling, then turned my phone sideways. The next morning, To Nha Lam did something. She posted a long post in the hospital-wide staff chat group. The title is: “Experience of a practicing doctor who was personally retaliated against by the Director.” The article was nearly two thousand words long, from stories of being kicked out of the cafeteria, being targeted during inspections, being stripped of surgical privileges, to being scolded in the hallway, everything was detailed. The last paragraph is: "I don't know whether a Director who openly deals with his husband's department subordinates is considered an abuse of power or not. But I do know, when power is in the hands of a vindictive woman, any normal person can be the next victim." When I arrived at the office at nine o'clock, Han Man was already waiting.
“The group chat exploded.”
“What was the reaction?”
"Divided into three types. One type scolds To Nha Lam for not knowing how high the sky and the earth are; one type sympathizes with her, feeling that she's really overdoing it; the other type is eager to watch a funny show."
“Which type is the most numerous?”
The corner of Han Man's mouth curled up.
“Kind of glib.”
“Do you agree with her much?”
"Not a few. Mainly focused on the surgical ward and nursing room. Luu My Hoa shared To Nha Lam's article in the group of Chief Nurses, and also commented one more sentence."
“What comment?”
“She said, ‘Whatever the truth is, young people's voices are also needs to be heard'.”
I laughed out loud.
“Good for the saying ‘the voice of young people needs to be heard’.”
Ten minutes later, I told Han Man to notify all mid-level staff of the hospital that the meeting would be held at two o'clock in the afternoon. This time, I don't intend to handle it silently behind my back. Chapter 12 At two o'clock in the afternoon, the meeting room was filled with people. Unlike the first time, the atmosphere this time was much more tense. Everyone's face had the expression "I don't know what trick the Director is planning to use". Phuong Tri Vien sat in his old seat in the second row, but this time his side was empty, Tham Ba Quan sat right next to him. Liu My Hoa sat at the end of the third row, her fingernails scraping against the cover of the notebook. Dean Ton, Dean Ma, Dean Tien sat together, not communicating at all. To Nha Lam did not attend, she did not have the status of a mid-level official to attend the meeting. I stood up, without hesitation.
“Today's meeting is only about one thing.”
“This morning, To Nha Lam of the Department of Bones and Joints posted an article in the hospital staff chat group, accusing me of taking advantage of my position, using public affairs for private revenge. I believe everyone sitting here has read it."
A few people below nodded slightly.
“Regarding the content she wrote, I do not refute every single thing. I'm just giving the facts, you guys can see for yourself.”
I turned on the projector. First page, Summary table of professional competency test scores of practicing doctors across the hospital.
“To Nha Lam theory 61 points, operational skills 58 points. Among 46 doctors practicing in the entire hospital, ranked fourth from the bottom. This data is organized by the Department of Medical Education, the exam questions are taken from the standard question bank, not created by me."
Second page, To Nha Lam's talent attraction appraisal dossier.
“To Nha Lam graduated with a bachelor's degree from Nguyen Chau Medical Academy, a second-class school. Our hospital's standards for attracting talent are clearly stated, the minimum threshold is a Master's degree from the top 985, 211 universities. Her education does not meet the conditions to attract talent."
There began to be whispers below.
“On the report, the person in charge of attracting talent signed it as Vice Head of the Department of Bones and Joints, Phuong Tri Vien. The review column was left blank, the previous Director did not sign, and the Human Resources Department also did not comment."
Third page, Table comparing the education of 4 people who entered the Department of Bones and Joints through talent attraction in the past 3 years.
“Of the four people, three of them did not meet the standards. The approval request was signed by Phuong Tri Vien."
