Chapter 2
Chapter 2 — My Husband's Secretary Announced Pregnancy
The mother-in-law's voice was high-pitched, echoing throughout the room, unable to hide her pride. She pushed past me, strode into the living room, placed all the large and small bags she was carrying on the sofa, as if showing off her trophies.
"Look at this! Mom bought it all for you! Bird's nest, sea cucumber... all great nutrients!"
She patted the gift boxes, her eyes shining.
"You have to nourish yourself to be healthy, then give me a plump grandchild!"
Father-in-law followed behind. Even though he didn't say anything, the smile on his face couldn't hide his joy. He nodded and added:
"It's true that we need to nourish ourselves."
Tran Mac was already frantically wearing a t-shirt and pants to wear at home. He looked at his parents with a bewildered expression.
"Dad, mom... what are you two talking about?"
He stepped forward.
"What's pregnant?"
The mother-in-law glared, raised her hand and slapped him hard on the arm.
"Are you still pretending with your parents? Thanh Thanh texted to say that our family has a big happy event. Isn't there something else like being pregnant? Is there anything more fun than this?"
Tran Mac's eyes immediately turned towards me, full of doubt and questioning. I didn't look at him, just quietly closed the door and smiled at my mother-in-law.
"Mom, don't rush. It's true that something funny happened, but it's not what you're thinking."
"Not?"
The mother-in-law's face immediately darkened.
"To Thanh, please tell me first, don't make fun of these two old people!"
I walked to the tea table, poured myself a cup of water and leisurely took a sip. Just because of that one sentence, the atmosphere in the living room immediately froze. The smiles on the parents-in-law's faces stiffened. Tran Mac's eyebrows furrowed into a knot.
"To Thanh, what exactly are you playing at?"
His voice was completely impatient. I put down the glass of water. Looking at the three people in front of him was like watching a comedy show.
"Dad, mom, Tran Mac..."
I slowly spoke up.
"Tonight our house is truly a double joy."
"Double joy forest gate?"
The mother-in-law frowned and repeated doubtfully. I nodded, then looked at Tran Mac's phone lying next to the file.
"First funny story..."
"Our family is about to have more people."
The mother-in-law's eyes immediately lit up. She was about to open her mouth when I raised my hand to stop her.
"Mom, let me finish first."
I turned to look at Tran Mac. Being stared at by me, he began to lose his temper, his eyes constantly avoiding.
"And the second fun thing..."
I paused for a moment, then said each word clearly:
"That's me and Tran Mac..."
"...about to get divorced."
The entire living room immediately fell silent. It's so quiet it's scary. For nearly ten seconds, no one spoke. The first person to react was the mother-in-law. She was like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, immediately screaming:
"Divorce?"
"To Thanh, are you crazy?"
"If you're at peace and healing, why do you suddenly ask for a divorce?"
"What did my son do wrong to you?"
"Is it my fault?"
I repeat that sentence, I just find it funny.
"Mom, this..."
"I should ask my good son."
Tran Mac's face was as red as pig liver. He rushed forward to snatch the phone back. But I expected it. One step faster than him, I picked up the phone.
"What are you going to do?"
He gritted his teeth and asked, his voice terrifyingly low, his eyes full of menace.
"Do what?"
I raised my phone. Turn the screen towards him, then towards your parents-in-law.
"Let your parents see..."
"My good son How to make this family 'two happy people'."
On screen. Four words "I'm pregnant." appeared dazzlingly. The father-in-law's face immediately turned pale. He grabbed the phone. The mother-in-law also quickly leaned in to take a look.
"Lin Uyen..."
"Who is this?"
She read the sender's name, then raised her head to look at Tran Mac. His eyes were filled with only shock and disbelief. Tran Mac's lips trembled. He couldn't utter a word. The blood on his face had also drained away, leaving only a pale look.
"His secretary."
I calmly replied instead. His voice was light as if he was talking about the weather.
"A secretary..."
"...pregnant with the grandchild I've been waiting for."
"You lied!"
Tran Mac finally found his voice again. He screamed at me.
"To Thanh! Just because you want a divorce, you dare to use such dirty tricks to slander me!"
"This photo was definitely taken by me!"
I laughed. Laughing so much that even my shoulders were shaking.
"Tran Mac..."
"Did you forget something?"
"Your phone..."
"...unlocked with my own fingerprint."
I looked at him, then looked at my husband's parents who were starting to waver.
"If you still don't believe..."
"Then call Lam Uyen right now."
"Ask her..."
"The baby in my belly..."
"...is Tran Mac's child or not?"
Right at that moment. The doorbell rang again. The bell rang loudly and impatiently. All eyes turned to the door at the same time. Tran Mac's face immediately turned white as a sheet of paper. He remembered. It was I who sent that message on his behalf.
"Come to my house. My wife is not at home tonight."
Looking at his panicked expression, the smile on my lips deepened. I stepped forward. Outside is a beautiful young girl. She wore a tight white dress, delicate makeup, and her face was full of anticipation mixed with shyness. But when she saw it was me who opened the door... The smile on her face immediately stiffened. Instead, there was a look of surprise and confusion. It's... I leaned to the side, raised my hand in an inviting gesture, then looked at the three people in the living room who were stunned.
"Everyone watch."
"First funny story..."
"...found myself at the door."
