Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — My Husband's Secretary Announced Pregnancy
Tram Mac said nothing more. He was like a statue with its support removed, standing stiffly in place. The papers were scattered all over the ground, each one was like a slap in the face, leaving him stunned, leaving him with no words to defend himself. The first person to break the silence was my mother-in-law. Her reaction surprised me. She did not continue to scold Lam Uyen, nor did she blame Tram Mac, but suddenly turned around and rushed in front of me.
“To Thanh!” She grabbed my arm tightly, with such strength that her nails were almost digging into her flesh. "You knew a long time ago, right? You knew long ago that Tram Mac had someone outside, but you deliberately held back until today to play tricks and make the Tram family lose face, right?"
What kind of thinking is that? I looked at her face, which was contorted with anger, and calmly asked:
“Mom, what do you mean… I should pretend not to know, then happily raise his mistress and stepchild?”
“That's not what I meant!” She shouted. "What I mean is, when husband and wife have problems, they close the door and talk to each other! Do you have to make a fuss for the whole world to know? Look at you now, do you still look like a wife? With a murderous aura, no different from a woman in the market!"
“Women in the market?” I laughed and gently removed her hand. "If demanding back what belongs to you is a market woman, then today, that's what I am."
I didn't pay attention to her anymore, my eyes turned to Tram Mac.
"Tram Mac, I've decided about the divorce." I said decisively. “Now, let's discuss the divorce conditions.”
The person who had been silent until now - her father-in-law - finally spoke, his voice hoarse and heavy:
"Thanh Thanh, is it necessary to come to this point? Tram Mac is at fault, but he's still young, who hasn't made mistakes? Can't you give him another chance?"
"Opportunity?" I asked again. "Dad, I gave him a chance for five years. I quit my job and stayed home to take care of things, so he wouldn't have to worry about anything. Because I wanted to give birth to his child, I took Chinese medicine for three years, had many injections, and tortured my body until it was out of shape. I gave him the chance, but did he appreciate it?"
My voice was not loud, but each word was like a nail, driving straight into the hearts of everyone in the room.
"He took the start-up capital given by my parents, and when he earned a little money, he criticized his wife for being unworthy. He used the couple's common assets to buy branded goods and a house for another woman. Now, that woman is pregnant with his child and comes to the door, and your parents still tell you to give him a chance?"
I took a deep breath, looked towards Lam Uyen - who was still kneeling on the ground, trying to cower to reduce her presence.
“Secretary Lam, please stand up, the floor is cold.”
Lam Uyen was stunned, looking slightly confused at Tram Mac. But Tram Mac didn't even look at her once. I walked over and helped her stand up.
"Don't kneel anymore, you are now the 'goddess' of the Tram family." I said, my voice as light as the wind. "In your belly, you are carrying the 'unique bloodline' of the Tram family. If something happens to you on your knees, my mother-in-law will probably die of heartbreak."
My mother-in-law's face turned red, sometimes white, and I stopped her from saying a word. After Lam Uyen stood up, she timidly retreated to the side. I sat back on the sofa, crossed my legs, my posture extremely relaxed, as if this place was not a bloody battlefield, but a My private negotiation room.
"Okay, now that all obstacles have been cleared, let's discuss the main issue." I took out a few more documents from the file. "Tram Mac, we are divorcing, property division is very simple."
I pushed a file in front of him.
"This house is a pre-marital property, completely bought by my parents, and in my name. Therefore, the house belongs to me."
I pushed out the second volume again.
"The BMW
Tram Mac's eyes widened and his breathing began to quicken. I didn't pay attention and continued to push out the third episode.
"After getting married, he in turn gave me a little money, plus my personal savings, and the money I invested profitably over the years - a total of three million two hundred and seventy thousand. This money is always in my personal account, with a clear statement, and is my private property."
I looked at his face becoming increasingly pale, smiling slightly.
“As for you…” I looked straight at the man in front of me, my eyes filled with pity. “Now, in your hands… what is left?”
Tram Mac's lips trembled, unable to say a word. Her mother-in-law couldn't bear it anymore, rushed forward, grabbed the documents, flipped through them haphazardly, and shouted:
"No way! Impossible! My family's Tram Mac runs such a big company, why doesn't he have any money? To Thanh, did you transfer all my family's money?"
“Mom, don't rush.” I gently reassured, but my tone was cold as ice. "I'm not done talking yet."
I took out the last file in the file - also the thickest - and placed it lightly on the coffee table.
"Tram Mac's company is truly a big company." I looked straight at him, every word clear: "But since last month, that company has been insolvent, completely bankrupt. Now it's just an empty corpse."
“You talk nonsense!” Tram Mac seemed to be poked in a sore spot, screaming, "My company is still running well! Don't talk nonsense here!"
“Good?” I raised my eyebrows. "So good that you had to use 500,000 public funds to keep a mistress?" "So good that you took the remaining liquid money in your company account to gamble in Macao, then lost everything?" "So good that... you used my father as a guarantor to borrow 5 million from the bank, and now you can't even pay the interest?"
With every sentence I said, Tram Mac's face became a little whiter. When I said the last sentence, his whole body staggered, as if he was about to collapse at any moment. My father-in-law suddenly stood up from the sofa, looked at me in disbelief, then turned to look at his son.
"Thanh Thanh, you... are you telling the truth? He took your father as a guarantor?"
"Dad, black and white paper, here is a copy of the loan contract." I pointed to the thickest file on the table. "You can look carefully. The debt collection notice from the bank was sent to your company this afternoon."
“If Dad hadn't called to ask me, I would probably still be hidden in the dark, thinking that my husband is a successful man who loves his wife and children.”
I looked at Tram Mac, looked at his devastated and desperate face, but there was no stir in my heart. Because I know - this play is now truly reaching its climax.
