Chapter 10 — Queen of the Zombie Picky Eaters

Tan Man placed a folder of documents firmly on the nurse's desk. The nurse was still hesitant. Luc Hanh looked at the crowd.

"They couldn't provide evidence. Do you even believe the words of an infected person?"

I looked at the needle tray. Suddenly I remembered that under the white light of the research institute, before being pushed inside, someone had said this. Infected people are not counted as humans. So their pain does not count as pain. Their network is not counted as network. I stepped in front of the needle tray. Tham Tan stopped me.

“Khuong Dao.”

“Get out of the way.”

I picked up a needle and stabbed it into my arm. Professor Lam shouted:

“No way!”

The medicine is injected. I waited three seconds. No response. Just as Luc Hanh was about to laugh, I pulled out the needle and stabbed Co Nghien's arm. Co Nghien screamed in fear.

“What are you doing?”

I said:

“Whatever you make, try it.”

Co Nghien's wound quickly turned black. His whole body convulsed on the ground, his teeth began to grow longer. Finally someone in the crowd shouted. The needle tray in the nurse's hand fell to the ground. Luc Hanh's face turned pale. Co Nghien twitched and scolded.

"Luc Hanh, you lied to me! You said this thing could be controlled!"

Luc Hanh stepped back. Tham Tan held him back. Qin Man publicly ordered:

“Sealing all vaccines, arresting those involved.”

The father just pushed me to hug my daughter and kneel down.

“Sorry, I don't know.”

I looked at his daughter. The little girl held a piece of candy in her hand and cried until she hiccuped. I said:

“Give me the candy.”

The girl was stunned and then handed over the candy. I peeled the candy and put it in my mouth. So sweet that it hurts my teeth.

“Okay, don't blame your dad.”

The trial of Luc Hanh lasted seven days. Not because the evidence wasn't enough, but because the people in the main city didn't want to admit they had been serving a thing wearing human skin for so long. On the seventh day, Tan Man brought the judgment platform to the main city square. This time the person in the cage is not me. It's Luc Hanh, Co Nghien and Trieu Truong Minh. Trieu Truong Minh is team leader Trieu. He has aged a lot, kneeling in the cage and constantly banging his head.

"I'm guilty, I plead guilty. Don't let my son see."

His son stood at the front of the crowd.

“I saw it.”

Trieu Truong Minh cried so much that his whole body was shaking.

“Dad, you were wrong.”

The teenager said:

“Dad, it's not that you know it's wrong. It's just that you lost.”

This statement is more cruel than scolding. Trieu Truong Minh fell to the ground. Co Nghien was half infected, tied up with iron chains but still staring at me.

“Dao Dao, I used to love you.”

I asked:

“What do you love about me?”

He did not answer.

“Love my blood? Love my test sample? Or love the fact that I can help you enter the main city?”

Co Nghien's lips moved slightly. I said:

“You see, even a decent lie cannot be made up.”

Luc Hanh still stood very straight. When Tan Man read the charges, he interrupted.

“Everything I do is for the survival of the main city.”

Someone in the crowd scolded him. There are also people who are silent. I walked up to the courtroom. Tan Man did not stop. I stood in front of Luc Hanh.

“Do you know why I hate you?”

Luc Hanh said:

“Because I see you as a tool.”

“No.”

I point to the infected people below podium.

"He sees everyone as a tool. The people of the city are his shields, the base soldiers are his knives, the infected people are his medicine. He doesn't love anyone, he just loves the feeling of standing on high."

Luc Hanh smiled coldly.

“What does a zombie like you understand about love?”

Tham Tan stood under the podium. Khuong Le hugged the boy. Professor Lam helps his uncle selling vegetables. Trieu Truong Minh's son looked at me. I said:

“I understand hunger.”

Luc Hanh was stunned.

"When I'm hungry I want to eat, when I'm in pain I want to bite. But I can't help it."

I looked at him.

"You're a human being, but you can't help it."

The square was silent. Tan Man tapped his hammer. Luc Hanh was detained for life, Co Nghien was placed under house arrest and treated for life, Trieu Truong Minh was exiled to work. As Trieu Truong Minh was being dragged away, he reached out to his son. The teenager did not step forward. A resettlement area for infected people was built between the main citadel and the base. Not inside the city wall, nor outside the city wall. Tan Man said this is a compromise solution. I say this is called being hated by both sides. She did not object. Professor Lam was so busy that he didn't sleep for three days, and his hair was as tangled as if it had just been chewed by a zombie. Khuong Le took the boy to learn to read. She teaches very seriously. The boy asked:

“Sister, is Khuong Dao the king of the undead?”

Khuong Le said:

“No.”

I passed by and nodded with satisfaction. Khuong Le added:

“She is a picky eater.”

I immediately turned around and left. Tham Tan is waiting for me at the training ground. In his hand he held an application.

“The resettlement area needs a patrol captain.”

I asked:

“You want to force me to work?”

“There is a salary.”

“Can I drink my salary?”

“Distributed blood supply.”

“Height standards?”

Tham Tan looked at me.

“I'm in charge.”

I received the application.

“Is it good to speak early?”

When I signed, I saw the status box next to my name. The infected person is awake. I crossed it out. Tham Tan asked:

“What do you want to write?”

I thought and wrote a few words. Captain patrols the resettlement area. Alive. Tham Tan looked for a long time.

"You're still alive."

I said:

“A zombie saying he's alive is easy for others to complain about.”

He gave me a bag of fresh plasma. I smell it.

“Yours?”

“Yes.”

“Captain Tham, what you're doing is very dangerous.”

“Are you going to bite me to death?”

I looked at the old tooth marks on his wrist.

“We still have to see your performance.”

He took a step closer.

“How should I express it?”

I raised my head and measured his height.

“First of all, you must maintain one meter nine.”

He finally laughed. I bit the plasma bag. The taste is still as good. Outside the resettlement area, the one meter seven nine guy was sneaking his head in. I pointed at it and shouted:

“Stop! Who let you in here?”

It held up a sign. On it were written crookedly two words: Apply for a job. I stared at it for a long time.

“Height does not meet standards.”

It turned the sign over. On it was written: Shoe lining. Tham Tan burst out laughing. I can't stand it either. The apocalypse is not over yet. The debt between humans and the undead has not been resolved yet. But at least today, I don't have to pretend to be a sociable monster anymore. I have a base, a salary, and a high blood supply meter nine. There are also a group of former colleagues who are not very smart, but are very obedient. This life can still continue, reluctantly. END OF STORY.
