Chapter 3
Chapter 3 — Queen of the Zombie Picky Eaters
When the zombie king rushed down, I rushed forward too. It's stronger than me. Much stronger. One of its claws tore into my shoulder, and I lowered my head to bite the wound on its severed finger. Black blood poured into my mouth, so bitter that I wanted to curse people. Tham Tan opened fire, the bullet pierced the zombie king's knee. It knelt down. I grabbed his hair and banged his head on the ground.
“It's okay to fire me.”
One more.
“Throw me downstairs.”
The third one.
“But you shouldn't use six feet to seduce me.”
We brought back the black blood, and also brought back captain Trieu. Along the way, team leader Trieu didn't dare look at me. After returning to base, his son's infection was suppressed. The father and son hugged each other and cried loudly. I stood next to him sucking frozen plasma. Professor Lam said:
“You saved them.”
Hearing this sentence, Captain Trieu's arm holding his child stopped. He looked at me and then bowed his head.
“Thank you.”
The voice was as small as a mosquito. I said:
“Speak a little louder. My ears used to die, it wasn't very good.”
Captain Trieu's face became unsightly. Tham Tan says:
“Sorry.”
Captain Trieu gritted his teeth:
“Khuong Dao, sorry.”
“What else?”
“I shouldn't slander you.”
“What else?”
He raised his head, his anger flared up again.
“Don't let the elephant ask for the fairy!”
I stuffed the plasma bag into his son's hand.
"You gave him medicine that made him sick, I saved him. Are you going to just say sorry and that's it?"
Captain Trieu's son suddenly spoke:
“Dad, are you giving me medicine?”
Captain Trieu's face turned white. I am satisfied. There are knife blows that must be given back by the son to truly hurt. Tham Tan ordered someone to detain Captain Trieu. Professor Lam took me for a test. She took out an old photo from the drawer. In the photo, there is a girl wearing a white dress, standing in front of the research building, smiling and looking very stupid. It's me. I still held the straw in my mouth, not moving. Professor Lam asked:
“Do you remember this place?”
“Don't remember.”
“Before being infected, she went to the research institute, the predecessor of this base.”
I drank the entire bag of plasma.
“Professor Lam, don't try to get along with zombies. It's very easy to get bitten.”
She turned the photo over. Behind there is a line of text. Khuong Dao, the first conscious patient, banned destruction. Tham Tan stood at the door. He also saw it. I asked:
“What does destruction ban mean?”
Professor Lam did not answer. The alarm sounded. From the loudspeaker, soldiers shouted loudly:
"There was a riot in the inner city, captain Trieu escaped!"
Tham Tan pulled out his gun and walked out. I follow. Professor Lam shouted behind him:
“Khuong Dao, don't let him near the warehouse.”
I asked:
“What's in the warehouse?”
She replied:
“Your infection record.”
When the warehouse door was broken open, team leader Trieu was throwing a stack of files into the fire basin. Seeing me, he smiled even more unsightly than a zombie.
“Monster, are you scared?”
Tham Tan raised his gun:
“Put it down.”
Captain Trieu held up a piece of paper to the fire.
"Tham Tan, do you know what she is? She is not an ordinary infected person, she is something that someone else intentionally released!"
I watched the corner of the paper gradually curl up. It has my name on it. There is also a signature strange. Lam Tri Van. Professor Lam rushed in, holding a fire extinguisher in his hand. Captain Trieu stepped back.
"Don't come here! I burned all these things, don't expect to know the truth!"
I said:
“Just burn it.”
He was stunned. I took a step forward.
"Anyway, I've already died once, whether I remember it or not makes no difference. As for you, you harmed your own son, stole medicine, and brought the source of infection into the inner city. Do you think they will judge you first, or me first?"
Captain Trieu's hands trembled. The paper fell into the fire. Professor Lam rushed to put out the fire. Tham Tan fired a shot, hitting Captain Trieu's leg. He knelt on the ground, in so much pain that he rolled over. Outside the warehouse was filled with soldiers. Captain Trieu's son also came. He held the door frame, looking at his father.
“Why did dad give me medicine?”
Captain Trieu cried:
"I want Tham Tan to lose his position! He protects outsiders, doesn't consider the people of the logistics team as human beings!"
“So you use me as a tool?”
Captain Trieu fell silent. I squatted down and picked up the unburned half of the paper from the ashes. There is only one sentence left on it. A conscious infected person has the ability to control the zombie herd. Tham Tan looked at me. I stuffed the paper in my mouth and chewed. Professor Lam panicked:
“What are you doing?”
“Destroy evidence.”
Tham Tan said:
“Don't you want to know?”
I swallowed the paper ash.
“Want.”
“So why?”
I pointed at the soldiers outside.
“They just agreed not to point guns at me. Now you tell them I can control the zombies, they'll immediately want to burn me again.”
Captain Trieu lay on the ground laughing.
“It's late, they all heard it.”
Outside the door, the soldiers indeed took half a step back. Tham Tan stood in front of me. Someone asked:
“Captain Tham, can she really control the zombies?”
Before I could speak, the roar of the living dead came from outside the city. One sound after another, as if calling my name. The city walls were filled with people. The zombies do not attack. They knelt outside the city. A pitch black area, all facing the base gate. The one meter seven nine guy knelt in front, the sign in front of his stomach shaking back and forth. I lay face down on the city wall, looking down.
“What are you guys doing? Are you here to ask for your salary?”
The one meter seven nine guy raised his head, his throat trying to squeeze out two words.
“King, dead.”
The zombie king is dead. So they came to find a new king. I slowly took a step back. All the soldiers looked at me simultaneously. Captain Trieu was escorted to the city wall and immediately shouted:
"See? She's the new zombie king! Tham Tan, do you still want to protect her?"
Someone raised a gun. Professor Lam stopped:
“If she wanted to attack the city, she wouldn't have saved people just now.”
Captain Trieu laughed so much that his whole body trembled.
"She saved people to blend in here! Don't you guys still understand? The undead know how to pretend to be pitiful, how to talk, how to agitate! If we don't kill her today, tomorrow she will force outside things to eat us!"
Captain Trieu's son walked out.
“She once saved me.”
Captain Trieu scolded:
"Shut up! You've been tricked by her!"
“The person who tricked me was dad.”
This statement is like a slap Captain Trieu couldn't say another word. Tham Tan asked me:
“Can we make them retreat?”
