Chapter 4
Chapter 4 — Queen of the Zombie Picky Eaters
I looked outside the city. The zombies are waiting for my orders. I can feel it. It's like there are countless strings hanging from my teeth, just biting down can make them rush in. I said:
“Maybe.”
Captain Trieu immediately shouted:
“She admitted it! She admitted it!”
I looked at Tham Tan.
“But I'm hungry, I have no strength.”
Tham Tan took off his gloves. Professor Lam stopped him:
“No, you were bitten last time.”
I said:
“Not wanting your blood.”
Everyone was silent. I raised my hand and pointed at Captain Trieu.
“I want his blood.”
Captain Trieu shouted shrilly:
“Based on what?”
“Based on your actions, you made me bear the blame, infected your son, burned my records, and even wanted the whole base to kill me.”
I walked up to him.
“Captain Trieu, didn't you say I was a monster?”
I bared my teeth.
“The monster wants some compensation, isn't that too much?”
Captain Trieu was pressed against the wall, his face pressed against the cold tiles. He cried and begged Tham Tan.
"Captain Tham, I was wrong, don't let her bite me. I used to transport food to the base, without merit there was hardship."
Tham Tan looked at the zombies outside the city.
“When giving your son medicine, did you think about hardship?”
Captain Trieu's son stood next to him, his voice hoarse.
“Let her bite.”
Captain Trieu suddenly turned to look at him.
“Dad is my dad!”
“When you push me to be a tool, do you remember that you are my father?”
At first I just wanted to scare him. Hearing this sentence, my teeth are no longer itchy. There are people who know how to bite others better than zombies. At least zombies only bite flesh. Captain Trieu bit into the bones of his loved one again. I bowed my head, made a cut on his arm, just licked a little blood. Tastes very bad. As expected, blood is difficult to drink for men who are only a little taller than one meter seven. I turned around to face the outside of the city. The undead raised their heads. I spoke up:
“Go away.”
The one meter seven nine guy tilted his head and looked at me. I add:
"Especially you, stop punching me in the stomach."
They retreated. Group after group left the city gate, disappearing into the ruins. On the city wall, no one spoke. The notepad in Professor Lam's hand fell to the ground. Captain Trieu sat down, his pants leg wet. Tham Tan walked next to me.
“You didn't bite him just now.”
“Too low, affects taste.”
He bowed his head and looked at me.
"Khuong Dao, who are you?"
Just as I was about to answer, applause suddenly rang out outside the base gate. A man wearing a long black coat stood on the path where the zombies had just retreated. Behind him were three cars. The white flag of the research institute was displayed on the car. Seeing that person clearly, Professor Lam's face immediately changed. The man took off his gloves, smiled and called me.
“Dao Dao, have you played enough yet?”
Tham Tan immediately raised his gun. I looked at that face, the blood in my stomach suddenly rolled up. He said again:
"I'm your fiance, Co Nghien."
I said:
“Sorry.”
“What?”
“How tall are you?”
Co Nghien's smile stiffened on his face. A researcher behind him bowed his head and looked at his heels. I seen it. Very good. This fiance doesn't look very sincere. Tham Tan asked:
“Why are people from the research institute here?”
Co Nghien didn't look at him, just stared at me.
“Dao Dao, follow me back. If you stay outside for too long, your body will break down.”
I pointed at myself:
"I've already become like this, how much more can I go wrong? Can I go bad like minced meat?"
Professor Lam walked over and stood next to me.
“Co Nghien, she is not your private property.”
Co Nghien's smile faded.
"Lam Tri Van, that year the person who signed to abandon her was you. Are you still pretending to be a good person now?"
Everyone on the wall immediately looked towards Professor Lam. I also looked at her. Professor Lam's finger groped into the pocket of his blouse to find a pen. He had to touch it twice to get it out.
“I won't give up on her.”
Co Nghien received a set of documents from his assistant.
"Signature here. The infected person is alert Khuong Dao, the risk of losing control is extremely high, it is recommended to destroy it. Signed by Lam Tri Van."
Captain Trieu seemed to have his life at stake and immediately shouted:
“Did you hear that? Even Professor Lam said she should be destroyed!”
I asked Professor Lam:
“Really?”
Professor Lam looked at me.
“That document has been edited.”
Co Nghien asked:
“Where is the evidence?”
She was silent. Co Nghien walked closer to the city gate.
"Dao Dao, you have the mark of the research institute on your body. What you eat, where you go, who you meet, must all be decided by the research institute."
I asked:
“So will you give me food?”
“Yes.”
“Are there people over six feet tall?”
Co Nghien's face became unsightly. Tham Tan suddenly spoke:
“He is one meter seven nine point five tall.”
Co Nghien turned to look at him. I also looked at Tham Tan.
“How do you know?”
Tham Tan replied:
“It says in the wanted profile.”
A researcher behind Co Nghien said in a low voice:
"Mr. Co, isn't the application filled out one meter eight two?"
Co Nghien turned his head to look at that person. The other person immediately shut up. I laughed.
“Fiance, did you lie about your height?”
Some people on the wall couldn't help but laugh out loud. A crack appeared in Co Nghien's calm appearance. He raised his hand. The car door opened, and a woman pulled out inside. She was wearing the same white dress as me in the photo, and her face was seven parts like mine. Co Nghien said:
“If you don't come back, I'll throw her into the zombie herd.”
The woman raised her head to look at me and softly called out:
“Sister.”
I can't laugh anymore. I don't have a sister. At least in my memory there isn't. Co Nghien pushed the woman in front of the car.
"Khuong Le, sane infected person number two. My replacement."
Khuong Le raised his hand to wipe his face, his sleeve revealing countless dense needle holes. Tham Tan asked:
“You used living people as experiments?”
Co Nghien said:
“In the apocalypse, survival is inherently an experiment.”
Professor Lam scolded:
“You're crazy.”
“The crazy one is you.” Co Nghien threw the documents on the ground. "That year, you refused to hand over Khuong Dao, causing thirty-seven people in the research institute to die. Now you still want to protect her?"
I looked at Khuong Le. She is very thin. So skinny that her white dress hangs loosely on her body. Her eyes looked at me not for help, but for admiration. She admired me for being able to stand on the city wall. I said:
“Let her go.”
Co Nghien laughed.
“Come down here.”
Tham Tan stopped me.
“He is forcing you to leave the base.”
“I know.”
“If you go down there, he won't let you go.”
“I know too.”
