Chapter 29
Chapter 29 — The Ao Dai Shop at the End of the Street
Five years after Ms. Xuan's death, Hoai Xuan ancient street has become one of the most famous cultural destinations in the region, attracting thousands of tourists each year to visit and experience the heritage values that are sustainably preserved and promoted. Vinh Xuan Shop, now in its fourth generation, continues to be an important highlight in each visitor's journey of cultural discovery.
The Vinh Xuan Scholarship Fund, after five years of operation, has successfully supported more than fifty students in difficult circumstances to pursue traditional ao dai tailoring, and at the same time sponsored eight craft village preservation projects in many different provinces and cities across the country, continuing to spread the spirit that Ms. Xuan sowed from the early days of her career.
"Do you remember the first day we established the scholarship fund?" Quang Duy asked Doan one evening, when they both reviewed the fund's five-year summary report. "At that time, we still couldn't believe it could grow so big."
"I still remember clearly," Doan replied, her eyes filled with pride as she looked back on the past journey. "And I believe, she would be very proud to witness what the scholarship fund named after her has done for so many people and so many communities."

Thuc Anh, now eight years old, began to show a special interest in the family's traditional sewing profession, often hanging out with her mother every time she had the opportunity to visit the sewing factory, passionately observing every needle and thread with curious, inquisitive eyes.
"Mom, can you teach me to embroider lotus flowers?" the little girl asked one weekend afternoon, sitting next to her mother at the familiar embroidery frame of the garment factory.
Doan smiled, feeling an indescribable happiness when seeing his childhood image reflected in his daughter. "Okay," she replied, patiently guiding her child through the first basic embroidery stitches. "But you have to be patient, because this job requires a lot of meticulousness, you can't rush it."
Thuc Anh listened attentively, her small hands carefully followed each of her mother's instructions. Even though the first embroidery stitches were still quite clumsy, they clearly showed a sincere passion that was gradually rekindling. Doan couldn't help but feel emotional when he realized that the family's traditional thread was continuing to be extended through the fourth generation, just as Mrs. Xuan had wished.

In addition to stable business development, Doan and Quang Duy also actively participate in many community activities, sharing their experiences at seminars and forums on cultural heritage preservation across the country. The story of the journey to protect and develop Hoai Xuan ancient street has become a typical example taught by many universities and research institutes as a typical example of the sustainable development model, harmoniously combining conservation and economic development.
"We often receive invitations from universities to share about the Hoai Xuan model," Quang Duy shared in an interview with a specialized magazine on urban planning. "What makes us most proud is not the economic achievements, but the fact that this model has inspired many other communities to dare to stand up to protect and promote the value of their own heritage."
The pottery village, the starting point for Quang Duy's journey to expand his mission beyond Hoai Xuan street, has now also become a famous cultural tourism destination, with the income of households in the village increasing three times compared to before, and the number of young people returning to learn traditional pottery has also increased significantly, completely reversing the trend of career extinction that the village once faced.
***
On a weekend afternoon, the whole family visited the pottery village together, where Mr. Sau Than, now over seventy years old but still alert and full of enthusiasm for his profession, proudly introduced Thuc Anh to the traditional pottery techniques that he has been attached to all his life.
"Do you want to try making a small bowl?" he asked, his eyes filled with affection as he looked at the little girl who was passionately observing the spinning pottery wheel.
Thuc Anh nodded enthusiastically, letting Mr. Sau Than patiently guide each basic movement, under the proud eyes of both Doan and Quang Duy. That moment, in the space of the pottery village filled with laughter and love, further strengthened both of their beliefs in a bright future, where traditional cultural values will continue to be preserved and promoted for many more generations, not only within their family, but also spread to many other communities across the country that they have had the opportunity to accompany and support throughout their recent meaningful journey.

That evening, when the whole family gathered around a tray of rice at the pottery village's guest house, Hong, who has now become the main manager of the tourism experience area in the village, shared with Doan about his future plans. "I'm thinking of expanding a pottery workshop specifically for children, where children can come to experience and learn every weekend," she said, her eyes filled with enthusiasm.
"That's a great idea," Doan replied, unable to hide his sincere support. "I think nurturing a love for traditional crafts from a young age is the most important key to ensuring these values will continue to be preserved for a long time."
"I learned that from the story of you and Mr. Duy," Hong replied, smiling gratefully. "If the two of you didn't persistently believe in us that day, perhaps this pottery village wouldn't be where it is today."
The conversation continued to last in a warm, intimate atmosphere, with new plans and ideas constantly being shared between the people who together built a meaningful success story about the revival of traditional cultural values.

On the way back to the city late at night, when Thuc Anh was fast asleep in the back seat, Doan leaned his head on Quang Duy's shoulder, looking out the car window, watching the dim mountains under the moonlight. "I still can't believe that from just one fight to protect our family's small shop, we were able to go this far," she said, her voice full of thought.
"I think that's the miracle of daring to stand up for the values you believe in," Quang Duy replied, one hand still firmly holding the steering wheel, the other hand holding his wife's hand tightly. "When we start from a small place but with a sincere heart, good things will naturally spread, connecting to places we never dared to dream of."
Doan nodded in agreement, feeling more deeply than ever the full meaning of the journey she and Quang Duy had gone through together - from a single fight to protect family heritage, to a broad mission to connect and nurture traditional cultural values across the country, all originating from the same small street, the ao dai shop at the end of the street that had nurtured her since her childhood days.
"Do you think, where will we stop?" Doan asked, turning to look at her husband with curious eyes. "Or will we just keep expanding forever?"
Quang Duy thought for a moment before answering. "I think, the important thing is not how much we expand, but that we always maintain our heart and sincerity in each project we participate in," he replied. "As long as we still feel passionate and believe in the meaning of the work we are doing, that day we will continue, whether on a large or small scale."
"I agree," Doan replied, smiling with satisfaction at her husband's answer. "And I think the most important thing is that we don't forget our roots, and don't let external successes overshadow the core values that we started on this Hoai Xuan street."
The car continued to roll into the night, bringing the whole small family back to daily life, carrying in each person's heart a firm belief in the road ahead - a road built on the foundation of love, sincerity and perseverance in preserving precious cultural values, not only for their own family, but also for the lucky communities who have the opportunity to accompany them on this meaningful journey.
Looking at her little daughter sleeping behind her, Doan silently thought about the years ahead, about the journey that Thuc Anh will gradually discover and continue, and she felt reassured and confident that, no matter what challenges the future brings, the solid roots that the family has built together will always be a fulcrum for her daughter, and future generations, to confidently step forward.
