Chapter 26 — The Stage of the Unsaid

The stage lights brightened, illuminating the scene of a small cafe elaborately built on the large stage of the city theater. Anh Thu stepped out as the girl character, her voice rang out clearly and confidently, without any tremors from the first days of practice filled with panic.

The auditorium, with a capacity of more than five hundred seats, was almost completely filled with spectators — including students, teachers from schools participating in the festival, along with many parents and local education journalists — gradually falling into concentrated silence as the story gradually unfolded.

In the second act, when Kien stepped out as Duc, his deep, warm voice full of true emotions echoed throughout the auditorium. No audience member could recognize that this was the guy who had stood frozen in the middle of the stage four years ago. Every gesture and look in his eyes exuded an amazing confidence and maturity, making even the most demanding judges take attentive notes.

The show continued to pass act by act, each scene was performed by both main actors with such chemistry and authenticity that many audience members could not hold back their emotions, soft sobs echoed throughout the auditorium.

By act five — the final climactic scene, where the mother says an imperfect but loving farewell to her daughter — Anh Thu acts with all her heart, letting her own true feelings, about her mother, about the healing journey over the past two years, blend fully into the character. Her voice trembled, not from fear, but from the absolute sincerity of the moment.

"I know, I never had a chance to say everything I wanted to say," Anh Thu, playing the mother in her last moments, whispered to the daughter character, "but remember, my love for you never needs to be expressed in words to be fully felt."

At that moment, the entire auditorium was plunged into absolute silence, with only soft sobs echoing from many directions. As the velvet curtain slowly closed, marking the end of the play, a short silence reigned before thunderous applause exploded, lasting endlessly, with many audiences standing up to applaud.

When the whole cast came out to bow, Anh Thu glanced down at the audience seats and saw his father standing and clapping, tears rolling down his cheeks. Next to him were Kien's parents who couldn't hide their extreme emotions. She turned to look at Kien and saw him smiling brightly, his eyes filled with unprecedented happiness and pride.

Backstage after the show was filled with a joyful celebration atmosphere. Ms. Huong hugged each member, tears of happiness continuously falling. “You guys have done a wonderful thing,” she said, her voice choked up. "Regardless of the official result, you touched the hearts of everyone in the room today."

Three hours later, when all twelve teams had completed their performances, the festival organizers gathered all the troupes at the main stage to announce the results. A tense and nervous atmosphere filled the auditorium as the judges took turns announcing the additional awards before arriving at the most important award.

"And the First Prize of this year's regional National School Theater Festival," the host's voice rang out solemnly, "is awarded to the performance 'The Light at the End of the Road' from Breaking Dawn High School!"

Cheers and applause echoed throughout the auditorium as the entire Breaking Dawn cast hugged each other in bursts of happiness. Anh Thu and Kien clasped each other's hands, tears of happiness rolling down both of their cheeks, when all the efforts, sacrifices, and even challenging ups and downs over the past four months were finally rewarded with the most brilliant glory the club has ever achieved throughout its eight-year history of existence.

The jury continued to announce two more special individual awards: the "Best Female Actor" award went to Anh Thu, and the "Main Actor with the Most Impressive Emotional Performance" award went to Kien - two awards that, for both of them, have an even greater meaning than the title itself, as a full recognition for the journey of overcoming themselves that each person has gone through.

When he stepped onto the stage to receive the award, the chairman of the jury, a veteran stage director, shook hands with each person and said to Kien in an impressive voice: "You have a rare natural talent. The way you convey emotions in act five is something that many professional actors can hardly achieve. I hope you will continue to pursue this path."

That sincere praise, coming from a leading expert in the industry, brought Kien an indescribable pride, completely erasing the last traces of the inferiority complex that had dogged him for four years.

After the award ceremony, the entire Hung Dawn team gathered to take souvenir photos with the sparkling First Prize trophy, bright smiles appearing on everyone's faces. Parents Anh Thu and Kien, along with many other parents, rushed to congratulate and hug their children in bursts of happiness.

"Dad has never been so proud of you," Mr. Duc Thang said, hugging Anh Thu tightly, his voice choked up. "You have proven that you can completely shine in your own way, without having to follow any stereotype."

Kien's parents were no less moved, embracing their son in a rare warm moment. "You showed us that sometimes, the scariest things are the paths that lead to the most wonderful things," his father said, his voice filled with pride.

At his home nearly two hours away, Gia Bach watched the award ceremony via the festival's official livestream on social networks, and couldn't hold back his sincere smile when he saw the moment Anh Thu and Kien stepped on stage to receive the award. He quickly typed a message into the club's general chat group: "Congratulations to the whole team! I'm really happy and proud to be a part, no matter how small, of this meaningful journey." That text message immediately received many warm responses, a clear sign that the reconciliation process within the group had truly been completed, closing all the painful rifts of the past tumultuous play season.

On the bus back to school that night, the whole cast was still immersed in unrelenting happiness, bustling laughter and chatter echoed throughout the bus. Anh Thu leaned her head on Kien's shoulder, watching the city lights pass by outside the window, her heart filled with a feeling of completeness and deep gratitude for the meaningful journey she had gone through with everyone.

"We did it," she whispered, her voice still shaking with emotion.

"We did it, together," Kien replied, gently kissing her hair. They both enjoyed that moment of peace and complete happiness, knowing that this was just the beginning of a new, promising chapter in their shared story.

In front of the car, Ms. Huong sat quietly looking out the window, her heart filled with an indescribable pride at the achievements of the students she had guided throughout the tumultuous performance season. She took out her phone and sent a brief message to the school board, announcing the club's historic victory, along with a proposal to organize an official honoring ceremony as soon as she returned to school.

Duy Anh and Ngoc Diep, sitting in the back row, reviewed the photos they had just taken at the awards ceremony together, constantly discussing excitedly about the most memorable moments of the day. "I think, this will be a memory I will remember for the rest of my life," Ngoc Diep said, her voice filled with emotion.

"Me too," Duy Anh replied, smiling and looking at Anh Thu and Kien leaning against each other in the front row. "And I think, this is just the beginning of many other great things that will come to our group in the future."

When the bus arrived near Dawn School, it was completely dark, but the lights from the school gate were still bright, as if welcoming champions back after a long, glorious journey. The whole group got off the bus amid the applause and cheers of a small group of students and teachers who voluntarily stayed and waited to welcome the group back, turning the end of a long, emotional day into a warm, unforgettable memory, marking the complete end of a challenging but also extremely meaningful four-month journey.
