Chapter 17 — Directions to Cloud Valley

Returning to Ta Chai, Thao Vy and Dang Khoi immediately began planning the details of the wedding, expected to take place in early spring of next year, when the weather in the highlands is mildest and also the season when peach and plum blossoms bloom throughout the valley, creating a beautiful romantic scene.

"I want our wedding to reflect both cultures," Thao Vy shared her idea one evening, as the two sat together to sketch out the plan. "Traditional Kinh rituals for my family, combined with the H'Mong cultural features that I have learned and appreciated over the past five years."

"I think it's a beautiful idea," Dang Khoi replied, fully supporting her vision. "It accurately reflects our journey — the union of two seemingly different worlds that blend together harmoniously."

Chua village chief, when asked for his opinion, enthusiastically proposed a number of traditional rituals that could be integrated into the wedding ceremony, from a simple "ancestor worship" ritual to ask for permission to hold a wedding on village land, to a traditional Khen dance to bless the newlyweds.

"We will consider this a big festival," Chua village chief promised. "The whole village will join hands in preparing, from cooking to decorating."

While the wedding preparations were progressing smoothly, Dang Khoi also received a surprise call from a medical charity organization, asking him to become the official coordinator for an expansion program, not only limited to Ta Chai but also expanding to many other villages in the Northwest region.

"This is a big opportunity," Dang Khoi shared with Thao Vy after the call, his voice both excited and a little concerned. "But it also means you will have to travel more for work, to more remote areas, not just Ta Chai."

"Do you think you can manage that workload?" Thao Vy asked, concerned about the life balance they both tried to build.

"I think it's possible, if we plan carefully," Dang Khoi replied. "And I think, this is also an opportunity for you to participate more deeply in coordination work, using your experience leading the group and understanding the highland terrain."

That idea opens up a new direction of development for both — not just individuals supporting each other, but a team of close collaborators, working together to expand the positive influence of the model combining community health and sustainable tourism to more lands.

"I like that idea," Thao Vy replied, her eyes shining with enthusiasm. "Not only does it help Ta Chai, but it can also create change in many other communities in need of support."

In the following weeks, the two began to develop a detailed expansion plan, combining wedding preparation with the development of a new cooperation model. Thao Vy used her network of contacts in the Northwest region's trekking guide community to identify other villages that had an urgent need for medical services but were difficult to access due to difficult terrain.

"There are at least five other villages within a radius of one hundred kilometers that are in a similar situation to Ta Chai," Thao Vy reported in a planning meeting with Dang Khoi and representatives of the volunteer organization. "If we can build a network of small clinics, connected by existing trekking routes, we can make a much bigger impact."

"That is exactly the vision we are aiming for," a representative of the charity organization confirmed, impressed by Thao Vy's deep understanding of the area's terrain and actual needs. "We would like to invite you to officially join the project's coordination team, as an advisor on logistics and local community connections."

Thao Vy, although surprised by the offer, felt that this was a valuable opportunity to expand the influence of the work that she had devoted her whole heart to over the past five years. "I'm honored to accept," she replied, unable to hide her excitement.

Dang Khoi looked at her with proud eyes. "I always knew you had much greater potential than you ever thought," he said after the meeting. "I'm glad to see you getting the recognition you deserve."

"We're building something really meaningful, right?" Thao Vy said, holding his hand tightly. "Not just for ourselves, but for a much larger land."

"That's right," Dang Khoi confirmed, the smile on his lips filled with hope for what lies ahead. "And I can't imagine a better companion on this journey than you."

Thao Vy's new role required her to make several survey trips to neighboring villages to assess actual needs and conditions. She invited Sinh to join, not only because she needed a reliable assistant, but also because she wanted to create opportunities for Sinh to develop more skills and experience.

"I think, you have the potential to become an excellent coordinator in the future," Thao Vy told Sinh as they prepared together for their first survey trip to Seo Chai village, about thirty kilometers from Ta Chai through the forest.

"I will try my best, Vy," Sinh replied, her eyes filled with determination to learn.

The survey at Seo Chai village went smoothly, with a warm welcome from the local village chief, who had heard about the reputation of the successful medical station in Ta Chai and was eager to have a similar model for his village.

"Our village has been waiting for an opportunity like this for a long time," said village chief Seo Chai, leading Thao Vy and Sinh tour the area where a medical station is expected to be built in the future. "Many elderly people and children in the village have suffered from diseases that could have been treated with timely medical care."

Thao Vy carefully recorded all information, from terrain, water sources, to the number of residents and distance to other neighboring villages, important data to develop the next project proposal to submit to the volunteer organization.

"I learned a lot from this trip," Sinh shared on the way back to Ta Chai, her face beaming with excitement. "I never thought coordination work would be so complicated and meaningful."

"This is just the beginning," Thao Vy replied, smiling as she watched her spirited sister gradually mature. "There are many other villages waiting for help, and I believe you will play an important role in this expansion journey."

When reporting the survey results to Dang Khoi and the volunteer organization, the proposal to build a second medical station in Seo Chai quickly received support, marking the first important step in the plan to expand the model to the entire region.

"We are truly creating a life-changing network for a large region," Dang Khoi said at the closing meeting, unable to hide his pride as he saw his original vision gradually become a reality on a much larger scale than he ever imagined.

"And it all started with a fateful trekking trip," Thao Vy added, smiling as she recalled the journey that brought them here. "Sometimes, the greatest things come from the smallest and most unexpected beginnings."

The evening after the meeting, Dang Khoi and Thao Vy walked together around the Ta Chai medical station area, which is now operating stably with Minh Trang taking on the role of permanent nurse. The lights from the medical station cast a peaceful evening scene, a vivid symbol of what love and determination can create.

"I still remember the first day we met again in town," Dang Khoi said, holding Thao Vy's hand as they passed by the familiar street. "I can't imagine, in less than a year, our lives have changed so much."

"From two strangers with wounds, to people who are building a network that changes the lives of thousands of people," Thao Vy continued, her voice filled with emotion. "It's truly been an extraordinary journey."

They stopped in front of the clinic door, looking at the solemnly engraved sign, recording the founding date and the names who contributed to the project. "I think this will be the most meaningful wedding gift we can leave behind — not just for ourselves, but for the whole community," Dang Khoi said.

"I completely agree," Thao Vy replied, resting her head on his shoulder as they both gazed at the peaceful scene before them, filled with gratitude for the journey that had brought them here, and hope for what lay ahead.
