Chapter 23 — Directions to Cloud Valley

Thao Vy and Dang Khoi's honeymoon took place not at some luxury resort, but in the land they loved most — a five-day private trekking trip to a more remote part of the mountain range, a place Thao Vy had explored on previous trips but had never had the opportunity to take guests to.

"Is this the strangest honeymoon idea you've ever heard?" Thao Vy asked, giggling as they prepared their luggage for the trip, packing each item neatly into their familiar backpacks.

"This is the most perfect idea," Dang Khoi replied, without any hesitation. "What could be more meaningful than starting married life with a journey of discovery together, in the very place that saw our love revived?"

Their journey took them to another small valley, hidden deep in the mountains, where there is a clear blue lake surrounded by primeval forest that has not been much affected by humans. The wild, quiet setting creates a perfect private space for the newlywed couple.

"This place is unbelievably beautiful," Dang Khoi exclaimed when he first saw the lake sparkling in the sunlight, reflecting the surrounding mountain peaks like a giant mirror, the water surface was calm without a single ripple.

"I found this place three years ago, during a survey of a new route," Thao Vy shares, her eyes filled with pride as she introduces one of her favorite discoveries. "I kept it as a secret, waiting for the right time to share it with someone special."

"I feel honored to be that person," Dang Khoi said, hugging her from behind as they both looked at the beautiful scene before them, both of their breaths harmonizing with the quiet rhythm of the mountains and forests.

Five days in that private paradise passed like a beautiful dream, away from all responsibilities and worries of daily life. They spent their time swimming in the clear blue water, camping under the brilliant starry sky free of light pollution, and simply enjoying each other's presence without being influenced by anything else.

"Do you think we will bring tourist groups here in the future?" Dang Khoi asked one evening, as the two sat next to a small campfire, watching the moonlight reflect on the lake.

"Maybe," Thao Vy replied, thinking about the idea. "But I want to keep this place special, perhaps only for small groups who really appreciate the wild beauty of nature, without affecting the fragile ecosystem here."

"It was a wise decision," Dang Khoi agreed. "Sometimes, the most beautiful things need to be protected, not fully exploited."

During those honeymoon days, the two also spent time talking more deeply about long-term plans for the future — not only about work, but also about personal dreams, about building a family, about the values they want to pass on to the next generation.

"Do you want to have children?" Thao Vy asked one evening, a question that both of them had thought about but had never discussed directly.

"I want to," Dang Khoi replied sincerely. "I want to have children who grow up between two rich cultures, learning to appreciate both the modernity of the city and the traditional beauty of the mountains and forests."

"I want that too," Thao Vy said, smiling happily as she imagined a future with children running around among the mountains and forests she loves. "But I think we should wait a little more time to fully stabilize our new job and life first."

"I completely agree," Dang Khoi replied. "There's no rush. We have a whole life ahead of us to build things at our own pace."

Those heartfelt, deep conversations, taking place amid a beautiful and quiet natural setting, further solidified the solid foundation for the marriage they had built — a foundation based on truth, understanding, and a shared vision of the future they both wanted to build together.

When the honeymoon ended, the two returned to Ta Chai with a renewed spirit, full of energy and a deeper connection than ever, ready to embark on the next chapter of their life together — not just their life as husband and wife, but also the journey to continue expanding the good values they have planted together in the Cloud Valley community.

On the third day of their honeymoon, while the two were walking along the lake, they happened to encounter a herd of rare mountain chamois drinking water on the opposite bank, a sight that even Thao Vy, despite having lived in the highlands for many years, rarely had the opportunity to witness.

"Look," she whispered, pulling Dang Khoi's hand to stop. The two quietly observed from afar so as not to frighten the herd of chamois. "This is a rare animal, on the list that needs to be protected."

"I've never seen them in real life," Dang Khoi said, his voice full of surprise and excitement, his eyes never leaving the herd of chamois leisurely moving along the water's edge. "This place is truly a gem that needs to be preserved."

That moment further strengthened both of their determination to develop sustainable tourism, without damaging the precious natural ecosystem of this land. They spent the rest of the afternoon discussing conservation principles that could be applied to future trekking routes.

"Maybe we should limit the maximum number of visitors per trip to ecologically sensitive areas," Thao Vy suggested, her mind already starting to draw up specific plans. "And it's possible to work with conservation experts to develop appropriate codes of conduct for visitors."

"I think that's the right direction," Dang Khoi agreed. "We don't want to repeat the mistakes of many other tourist destinations, where massive development has destroyed the very natural values that attracted visitors in the first place."

The last evening before leaving that private paradise, they sat by the campfire, holding hands, looking at the last stars before returning to their busy daily lives.

"I thank you for sharing this special place with me," Dang Khoi said, his voice filled with emotion. "It will always be the most special place in my heart, marking the official beginning of our married life."

"This will always be my special place," Thao Vy replied, resting her head on her husband's shoulder. "Perhaps, one day, we will bring our children here and tell them about the place where we began the most beautiful chapter of our lives."

The next morning, when they packed their things and prepared to leave that small valley full of memories, they both brought with them not only photos and beautiful memories, but also a deeper connection, a stronger foundation for the life together that was waiting ahead - a life built on sincere love, mutual respect, and a common vision of preserving and sustainably developing the land they both considered home.

On the way back to the village, they stopped to rest at a high point overlooking the entire Valley of the Clouds. The scene was familiar but never ceased to thrill them. Thao Vy took out her camera and captured that moment — not for work, but simply to preserve a private memory of the couple.

"Looking down from here, everything looks so small and peaceful," Dang Khoi commented, wrapping his arms around his wife from behind as they both admired the vast scenery before them. "It's hard to believe, everything we've been through, everything we're building, originates from a small piece of land in the middle of this giant."

"Sometimes, the greatest things start from the humblest places," Thao Vy replied, smiling at that simple but profound philosophy. "Just like our love — it started with a small trekking trip leading a group of volunteers into the village, but has grown into something much bigger."

They continued their journey back to the village in the late afternoon, filled with peace and happiness, ready to face the new responsibilities and challenges that lay ahead, but now, with a firm confidence that, no matter what happened, they would always overcome it together, hand in hand, as they had done throughout their tumultuous journey.
