Chapter 29 — Directions to Cloud Valley

Five years after their fateful reunion in the small town, Thao Vy and Dang Khoi held a special event in Ta Chai — the fifth anniversary of establishing a community health and sustainable tourism cooperation network, and also marking the milestone of the network successfully expanding to twelve provinces across the country.

The event area was beautifully decorated, with signs displaying images and data about the project's development journey — from the first small medical station in Ta Chai, to the current large network that serves more than fifty thousand patients each year.

"Five years ago, when I first led the volunteer group to Ta Chai, I never imagined this journey would take us so far," Thao Vy said in front of a large number of guests, including representatives of health agencies, donors, and many people from all villages who have benefited from the cooperation network.

Dang Vy, now four and a half years old, sat on her grandmother's lap in the front row, watching her mother with proud eyes, occasionally waving to acquaintances in the crowd.

"This journey is not just a story about medicine or travel," Dang Khoi continued, his voice filled with emotion. "It's a story about the power of collaboration, of trust, and most of all, a story of how true love can be a driving force for positive change beyond what we could ever dream of."

Among the special guests was Minh Trang, now regional medical director, in charge of coordinating the entire network of medical stations spread across twelve provinces. She shares touching stories about patients whose lives were saved thanks to the existence of this network.

"I remember a case of an old man in a remote village who had a sudden heart attack in the middle of the night," Minh Trang said, her voice filled with emotion. "If it weren't for a nearby medical station and a well-trained team, she definitely wouldn't have survived. That's just one of thousands of similar stories our network has written over the past five years."

Sinh, who now takes on the role of community development coordination director for the entire network, also gave an emotional speech, sharing her personal growth journey from a simple young assistant, to an influential leader in the field of community development.

"Sister Vy taught me that true sustainable development can only be achieved when we empower the community itself, instead of imposing solutions from outside," Sinh said. "That lesson has shaped my entire career, and I believe it will continue to guide all future community development projects."

The head of Chua village, despite his old age, still could not hide his pride when speaking in front of a large number of guests. "From a forgotten village, Ta Chai has now become a symbol of successful cooperation between local communities and sustainable development initiatives," he said. "This is the most precious gift that Thao Vy and Dang Khoi have brought to us, not only in terms of material things, but also in terms of belief in our ability to decide our own future."

The ceremony ended with a special ritual — planting a large banyan tree in the center of the village, symbolizing the longevity and sustainable development of the cooperative relationship that has been built over five years. Thao Vy, Dang Khoi, and baby Dang Vy, shoveled the first shovels of soil together, marking a new beginning for the coming years.

"This tree will grow with you," Dang Khoi told his daughter, his hand gently holding her hand as she tried to hold the small shovel. "And every time I see it, I'll remember our story, how love and determination can create lasting good."

Dang Vy, even though she was too young to fully understand the profound meaning of those words, still nodded seriously, her big round eyes shining with curiosity and excitement at this special ritual.

As the ceremony gradually ended, Thao Vy stood quietly alone next to the newly planted young banyan tree, looking at the scenery of Cloud Valley stretching out before her eyes - the place that witnessed her entire life journey, from the painful days of fleeing the city, to the complete happiness of the present. She feels a deep gratitude, not only for Dang Khoi and her daughter, but for the whole land and people who wrote this beautiful story with her.

Dang Khoi came to his wife's side, putting his arm around her shoulder as they both watched the sunset gradually fall, dyeing the entire valley orange. "What are you thinking?" he asked softly, noticing the familiar thoughtful look on his wife's face.

"I'm thinking about the journey that brought us here," Thao Vy replied, resting her head on her husband's shoulder. "About everything that's happened — the pain, the healing, and now all these good things. Sometimes I still can't believe it's become so perfect."

"Me too," Dang Khoi admitted, squeezing his wife's hand. "But I think it's the difficulties we've gone through that make our current happiness even more meaningful and appreciable."

Baby Dang Vy ran to her parents, her hand holding a small wildflower that she had just picked nearby. "For mom," the girl said, giving the flower to Thao Vy with a bright smile.

"Thank you, honey," Thao Vy replied, accepting the flower and hugging her daughter, gently kissing her soft hair. "You are the most precious gift I have ever received."

The whole family stood there, amid the beautiful sunset of Cloud Valley, enjoying a rare moment of peace amid the busyness of work and community responsibilities. In the distance, the sound of festive music still resonates, mixed with the laughter of the villagers continuing to celebrate this important milestone.

"I think, five years from now, we will stand here and look back at the past with even greater pride," Dang Khoi said, his eyes full of hope for the future.

"I believe so," Thao Vy replied, smiling happily. "As long as we keep the original spirit — sincerity, respect, and love for the community and each other."

As darkness gradually falls, lanterns are lit throughout the village, creating a shimmering, magical scene. The small family of Thao Vy and Dang Khoi, hand in hand, walked back to the festival area to continue celebrating with the community that has become an inseparable part of their lives, bringing with them deep gratitude and a firm belief in a future with many good things waiting ahead.

At the festival area, Dr. Phong, who has now reached retirement age but still holds the role of honorary advisor for the entire network, came to congratulate his former student. "Khoi, I have never been more proud of a student than I am of you," he said, his voice filled with emotion when he saw what Dang Khoi and Thao Vy had built together.

"I am where I am today thanks in large part to your guidance," Dang Khoi replied, squeezing the hand of the respected teacher who had accompanied him from the most difficult early days. "Thank you for always believing in and supporting me, even during the times when I doubted myself."

"That's what a good teacher should do," Dr. Phong replied, smiling kindly. "But the greatest credit belongs to myself and Thao Vy, who dared to turn those lessons and values into concrete actions, bringing practical benefits to thousands of people."

Mrs. Hanh, standing nearby with baby Dang Vy, could not hide her pride when witnessing this warm scene. "Your father would certainly also be very proud if he could witness this day," she told Dang Khoi, referring to her husband who passed away two years ago after a long battle with illness, but had the opportunity to witness the first successes of the project before passing away peacefully.

"I believe dad is watching us from somewhere, mom," Dang Khoi said, his voice low and full of nostalgia. "And I hope you're proud of what you've accomplished, not just for your family, but for this wider community."
