Chapter 23 — Mistakes Cannot Be Compensated

“Don't let him hear your regrets anymore.”

Luc Hoai Xuyen stood silently for a long time, then finally bent down to pick up his bouquet of flowers. Before leaving, he placed a file on the bench.

“This is the certificate for being elected Young Expert that year.”

I glanced.

“Take it.”

"I have already asked to withdraw my title."

“That's your job.”

“I want to leave it to dad…”

“He doesn't need it.”

Luc Hoai Xuyen's hand slowly dropped. I turned around and continued peeling chestnuts for dad. The sound of footsteps slowly fades away on the stone steps. Waiting for the cemetery to fall silent, I raised my head. The smile on my dad's photo is still as gentle as ever.

“Dad.”

I placed the newly printed design of the rehabilitation center down in front of the tombstone.

“I have redone the previous plan.”

“This time there's no need to wait to see who's free.”

12 The Rehabilitation Center's new facility is located near the street that my father was aiming for in the past. The old premises have been cleared, and the first floor of the newly built building right there has a shop on the street. On the day of signing the rental contract, Tong Dao insisted on buying two strings of firecrackers, but was blocked right outside the door by the management board.

“Fireworks are prohibited in inner city areas.”

She carried a plastic bag and complained: "There's no etiquette at all." Hua Van Chau carried a cardboard box down from the car.

“Buy that electric firecracker, turn it on again and again, it's both economical and protects the environment.”

I opened the box, inside was a wooden sign. Gia Hoa Cardiovascular Rehabilitation Center.

“Who did that?”

“I ordered it.” Tong Dao quickly argued, "The name was given by Doctor Hua."

I looked at Hua Van Chau. He gently pushed his glasses.

“In your father's plan, the project name is always left blank.”

“So should I use my name?”

“It cannot be called the Rehabilitation Center of Director Luc's family.”

Tong Dao laughed out loud. I also couldn't help but laugh. When the sign was hung, across the street a black car pulled up. Luc Hoai Xuyen stepped down from the car. He was much thinner than a few months ago, wearing a normal jacket, no longer a white blouse, and no longer had the look of leisurely people calling him "Homeroom" wherever he went. The smile on Tong Dao's face immediately disappeared.

“Why did he come again?”

“Sign the contract today, don't cause trouble.”

I walked down the steps.

“Is there something wrong?”

Luc Hoai Xuyen glanced at the sign.

“Is the center opening soon?”

“There's still work to be done.”

“Is the money enough?”

“Enough.”

“You can invest.”

“There is no shortage.”

His eyes glanced past me, stopping on Hua Van Chau. Hua Van Chau was standing on the ladder adjusting the sign when he heard the noise and lowered his head to look over. Luc Hoai Xuyen asked: "Is he in charge of your center?"

“The person in charge of medicine.”

“How long have you known each other?”

I frowned.

“What does it have to do with you?”

“I just asked a question.”

“So I don't want to answer.”

Hua Van Chau climbed down from the ladder.

“The sea is a bit askew, please come over and help me see.”

I walked back and forth a few steps.

“The left side is a little higher.”

“Like this?”

“A little more.”

Hua Van Chau climbed up the ladder again. Luc Hoai Xuyen stood on the side of the road, his face increasingly ugly. Wait for the sign to be adjusted immediately shortly, he walked closer to me.

“Gia Hoa, let's talk privately.”

“There's nothing to say.”

“About you two.”

I turned around.

“What do we do?”

“Not divorced yet, have you contacted him yet?”

Tong Dao was holding a cardboard box against the door, when he heard this sentence he immediately turned back.

“Luc Hoai Xuyen, are you sick?”

Luc Hoai Xuyen didn't care about her.
