Chapter 24
Chapter 24 — Mistakes Cannot Be Compensated
"I never intended to leave you before. As soon as Tong Dao contacted me, I immediately found a job, moved house, opened a center, and another man appeared next door."
“So what?”
"I want to know if our divorce is ultimately related to him or not."
Tong Dao placed the cardboard box firmly on the ground.
"You and On Thu Nha have been inseparable in the hospital for 5 years. Has Gia Hoa ever wondered if you two have ever gone to bed together?"
Luc Hoai Xuyen's face darkened.
“You and Thu Nha have never exceeded the limit.”
“Do you think not having gone to bed means you haven't crossed the limit?”
“Tong Dao.”
I called her back. She was so angry that her chest was heaving, but she still stepped aside. I walked in front of Luc Hoai Xuyen.
“Without Hua Van Chau, I would also divorce.”
“Without Tong Dao, I would also move.”
“Without the Recovery Center, I still would not have turned back.”
“But before, it was clear that you…”
“Before, my father was still alive.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen immediately fell silent. I continued: "Before, I believed that you were really bound by the rules, believed that you were just taking care of your colleagues with Wen Shuya, and believed that every time you left there was a compelling reason."
"Later I learned that when you don't want to take risks, you will bring up the rules. But when you want to save her mother, you are willing to drive 7 hours at night to get home."
“I don't need another man to see through these things.”
The edges of Luc Hoai Xuyen's eyes gradually turned red.
"I have left the old hospital and no longer have contact with Wen Shuya."
“I know.”
“What happened to your father, I will use the rest of my life to make up for it.”
“How do you make up for it?”
His lips trembled.
“Go back to the grassroots level, perform more surgeries, save more people?”
“That's great.”
I nodded.
“But those people are not my father.”
Hua Van Chau walked over and gave me a bunch of keys.
“The management wants to accept the fire prevention, I'll go in first.”
He didn't even look at Luc Hoai Xuyen, nor did he interfere in our conversation. I took the key. Luc Hoai Xuyen stared at our joined hands. Hua Van Chau let go very quickly, just a normal handing operation. But Luc Hoai Xuyen took a step forward.
“You like him?”
“Not yet.”
My answer made Hua Van Chau's steps stop. Tong Dao was also stunned. I looked at Luc Hoai Xuyen.
“There may be later.”
His face blinked white.
“What did you say?”
“I will meet new people, go out to eat, go on dates, and maybe get married again.”
“Gia Hoa…”
“These things will happen.”
I tightened my grip on the keys to the new facility.
“It has nothing to do with you.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen stood on the side of the road, the puddle left behind by the rain reflected his blurred silhouette. A long time later, he took out a small box from his pocket. It's our wedding ring. When I divorced, I left my ring on the desk at my old house. He held out the box.
“Give it back to me.”
“I won't take it.”
“This is mine.”
“Throw it away.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen's hand stiffened in midair. I passed him, pushed open the glass door of the center and walked in. Hua Van Chau stood inside, as if he hadn't heard anything, just handed me the fire prevention inspection report.
“Sign here.”
I took the pen. There was no sound of footsteps behind us. When I finished signing the last stroke of the pen, Tong Dao ran to the door to take a look.
“Gone.”
I put the key in my pocket. Hua Van Chau bowed his head to arrange documents, his ears slightly red. A moment later, he suddenly asked: "What does that statement just now mean?" Tong Dao immediately perked up his ears to listen.
