Chapter 5
Chapter 5 — Mistakes Cannot Be Compensated
I do not ask for further division of assets, I only ask to take away my savings and the souvenirs my father left behind. The lawyer reconfirmed twice over the phone.
"Miss Tham, Mr. Luc's income in recent years has not been low. His salary after marriage is common property, according to the law you have the right to claim it."
“I know.”
“Are you sure to give up?”
“Sure.”
I don't want to waste any more time calculating his salary, bonus, and research project money. That money cannot change my father's life. Can't help the me of the past 5 years live again. At 11 o'clock at night, Luc Hoai Xuyen returned. I'm in the study room revising the divorce agreement. He pushed the door open and walked in, carrying a box of pre-packaged food.
“Sweet lotus root.”
I don't look back.
“Leave it outside.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen walked to the side of the table.
“Are you still angry?”
“No.”
He saw the document on the screen, I promptly switched tabs.
“What are you writing?”
“Work documents.”
“Are you looking for a job?”
“There are plans.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen pulled out a chair and sat down.
“Why are you suddenly thinking about going to work?”
“Tong Dao's center is lacking people.”
“Her facility has only been open for two years, the management is chaotic, I don't learn anything even when I go there.”
“I will judge for myself.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen looked at me for a moment.
“Today I went to look up my father's medical records, what did I find out?”
“That year, you can ask for an inter-institutional consultation.”
His face froze.
“Who told you?”
“Doctor Trieu is at Hospital No. 2.”
“He did not understand the specific regulations of the affiliated hospital at that time.”
“It's still possible to apply for a consultation, right?”
Luc Hoai Xuyen did not answer immediately. I turned my chair around to look at him.
“Why didn't you apply then?”
His hand was placed on the edge of the table, his index finger lightly tapping.
“Your father's condition is very complicated.”
"I'm asking about applying for a consultation."
"Gia Hoa, medicine is not as simple as you think. Now I take the old medical records to find out who has to do what, it doesn't make any sense."
“Makes sense to me.”
Luc Hoai Xuyen stood up.
“I have two major surgeries tomorrow, I don't want to argue about these things in the middle of the night.”
“I don't want to argue either.”
I closed the computer.
“Go to bed early.”
He walked to the door and stopped again.
“The burn on Thu Nha's hand is not serious.”
I didn't answer.
“She doesn't blame me.”
I laughed softly.
“So do I have to thank her?”
Luc Hoai Xuyen turned back, his eyebrows furrowed.
“I didn't talk like this before.”
“People will change.”
“For a thank you card?”
“Whatever you think is what you think.”
He stared at me for a few seconds, then finally slammed the door and left. The next morning, before leaving the house, Luc Hoai Xuyen put that sweet lotus root in the refrigerator.
"I'll come home for dinner tonight."
“Okay.”
He probably didn't hear it, this word "okay" is completely different from before. That morning, I printed out two divorce agreements and signed them one after another. During the day, Luc Hoai Xuyen has a complicated congenital heart surgery scheduled until 3 p.m. I didn't intend to bother him, I intended to wait until he finished the surgery to talk directly. Upon arriving at the hospital, the nurse's station was very busy. The patient's family gathered around the window asking for the hospital bed. I stood aside and waited for ten minutes when I heard someone called "Chief Nurse On". On Thu Nha walked out of the infirmary. Her right hand was covered with a small piece of gauze. When she saw me, she slowed down her steps.
“Ms. Gia Hoa.”
“Has Luc Hoai Xuyen finished his surgery yet?”
“Not yet, I just said there was some problem with the stitching, it will probably be a little later.”
I glanced at the time.
“I went into the office to wait for him.”
On Thu Nha raised her hand to stop.
"There is a medical record in Director Luc's room, so it's not convenient for family members to come in alone."
