Chapter 14 — The Empty Rescuer and the Female President Hide a Will

The independent investigation began with the sealing of the accounting department.

Hoang Nam brought in three auditors who did not work for Thien Ha. They discovered that Thanh Tin had received funds through four subsidiaries, but did not have invoices for materials. The order is due to an electronic signature belonging to Tuong Vy.

Vy looked at the screen.

“I never signed.”

“The signature was created on your computer.”

“My device was copied when I went to Japan.”

Nam asked who had the right to enter the room. Vy said there were only three people: her, Quoc Thanh and her old assistant named Mai.

Mai has been missing since the vote.

I looked for information according to rescue records. Mai once registered for an apartment near the river station, but neighbors said she moved out after being hit by a car.

We followed the hospital. Mai lies in the recovery room, unable to speak because of a broken jaw. She wrote on the board: "It's not Thanh. It's the person who wants me to be a witness."

I asked who that person was. Mai wrote two words: "Vy's mother."

Vy panicked. Her mother, Mrs. Nhu, has lived abroad for many years.

Mrs. Nhu returned that night, carrying a suitcase. She did not deny hiring people to retrieve the data.

“I want to protect you,” she said.

“By forging your signature?” Vy asked.

“By pushing Thanh out of the group before he kills both of you.”

She produced another will. In particular, Vy's father not only left funds for the two sisters. He also recorded the third manager: Mrs. Nhu.

I do not understand.

“You know the fund from the beginning,” I said.

"I helped them set up the fund. After he died, I was forced to pretend I didn't know you existed."

“She let my mother raise me in fear.”

Mrs. Nhu bowed her head.

“I thought hiding it from you would save your life.”

Vy stood between us, neither defending her mother nor me.

Outside the window, the river water rose faster than forecast. Tuan called to report that the southern embankment had cracked.

I held a life jacket.

"Everyone wants to explain to the family, I'm going to save the people."

Vy followed, no longer wearing a suit.
