Chapter 7 — The Empty Rescuer and the Female President Hide a Will

I don't call Vy sister.

She also doesn't call me sister. We sat in Hoang Nam's law office, among maps, documents and an aluminum box still covered in mud.

Hoang Nam confirmed that the old birth certificate has an archive stamp, but to use it in court, a blood test is required.

“I don't care about blood,” I said.

Vy looked at me.

"But Quoc Thanh needs it. He will use this to say I'm not the only heir."

“You want to keep the power?”

“I want to keep the rights so that no one sells the riverside area.”

Nam opens the fund file. The initial capital was contributed by Vy's father, but the operating funds came from my father. Two people hold a joint fund, meaning both branches of the family have rights.

“If the will is confirmed, you can become a co-manager,” Hoang Nam said.

I laughed.

"I'm a fired lifeguard. What do I manage?"

“Half the money is enough to buy the whole land,” Vy replied.

I turned to her.

“Do you know where the rest of the money is?”

Vi shook her head.

“My father said there was a second safe, but he didn't tell me.”

Captain Tuan called. He sent a photo of a new mobilization order: I was banned from entering all rescue stations because of the "risk of disclosing documents".

“Tuan, do you know who signed it?”

“Regional deputy director. But I objected.”

“Do you keep the original camera copy?”

Tuan was silent.

"Yes. I hid it in the equipment warehouse."

We go to the warehouse. The original camera shows the child's mother being pushed into the car by a person wearing a Thanh Tin shirt before the water rose. The embankment engineer, the child's father, stood arguing with them, then disappeared.

At the end of the video, he handed the box to the child and said: "Give it to the rescuer named Han."

Thanh knew the plan in advance. He wanted me to receive the box to reveal where the files were kept.

Vy held my hand.

“So we turn the trap into testimony.”

Nam suggested publishing the video. Hoang Nam warned that it could put the child in danger.

I understand the investigation has just turned from a family matter to a missing person's life.
