Chapter 21
Chapter 21 — The Empty Rescuer and the Female President Hide a Will
Thien Ha cannot immediately return to normal.
The trust fund must make its books public, the debt must be negotiated, and riverside residents need a place to stay before the new rainy season. Vy proposed converting part of the land warehouse into a temporary residential area.
Some shareholders objected because it was not profitable. I invited them down to the scene.
"You see the land. I see three thousand families."
Quan designed the resettlement area with flood-proof materials. Ms. Nhu used her connections to raise capital, not hiding the sponsor's name.
Nam opened a section to track each expense, so people can check it online.
I was asked to be the fund's director. I refused the title, only accepted the role of rescue coordinator.
“You can run the whole fund,” Vy said.
“I'd rather be on a boat than in a boardroom.”
“I will keep the meeting room.”
Khang took me to see the newly opened kitchen next to the temporary housing area. He hired local people to cook, paid them a daily wage, and made the menu public.
“You do the fundraising, I do the kitchen,” he said. “Our family also has its own corporation.”
I smiled, but my heart was still heavy. Among Thanh's documents, there is a list of unexplained amounts of money. The final recipient's name was an account belonging to my mother.
I asked Mrs. Hanh. She admitted that she had received money from Vy's father to support me, but did not know it was foundation money.
“I use it for your medicine and school fees,” she said.
“Do you know what he did wrong?”
“I just know he wants you to live.”
After listening, Vy offered to return the money to the fund, even though it had been spent many years.
I object.
“Mom is not an embezzler.”
“But the fund needs to be clearly stated.”
We agreed to record the support as witness protection costs, with confirmation from a lawyer.
A doubt is resolved by paperwork, not by argument.
That night, the investigation board sent a notice: Quoc Thanh could have his sentence reduced if he surrendered his overseas accounts.
In the account list, one name made Vy speechless: her mother.
