Chapter 22 — The Empty Rescuer and the Female President Hide a Will

Ms. Nhu did not run away. She went to the investigation agency herself.

The overseas account is hers, but the money in it was transferred by Vy's father to buy rescue equipment. She used to keep it a secret because she was afraid Thanh would find out and take the funds.

“My mother also used fund money without reporting,” Vy said.

“I use it to protect those your father cannot protect in time.”

I asked if she could prove it. She offered a contract to buy six boats, along with photos of delivery in the border area.

The boats saved hundreds of people, but the documents were classified as "unplanned expenses". No one was rewarded, and no one knew who paid.

Hoang Nam prepares an adjustment record. Ms. Nhu agreed to take responsibility for hiding her account, in exchange for all data being made public.

Vy sighed.

“Our family is good at doing the right thing in the wrong way.”

I replied:

“So let's start doing the right thing the obvious way.”

The court called us to a fund hearing. Quoc Thanh appeared with a lawyer, no longer confident.

He said my father used to sign illegal money transfers. I gave the boat delivery record.

"He transferred money to buy assets for rescue purposes, not into his own account."

Quoc Thanh did not answer.

Duyen testified about the insurance contract. Tuan talked about pressure. Mai provides electronic signature data. Quan presented the embankment design.

Each person plays a piece of the puzzle. No one is made into a hero; they only told the part they were afraid of.

After the hearing, Quoc Thanh was charged with additional charges of destroying works and coercing witnesses.

Vy asked me if I wanted to go home and rest.

“I have to check the temporary settlement.”

“Aren't you tired?”

“Yes. But being tired is different from giving up.”

At the construction site, a new section of the embankment collapsed. Quan looked at the ground and realized there was an old pipe below that was not part of the design.

The pipeline leads directly to a plot of land that Thanh sold to a real estate fund.

The land sale contract has not been completely canceled. The buyer is trying to retain rights with a confidentiality clause.
