Chapter 2 — The Empty Rescuer and the Female President Hide a Will

The old bank located in the street has been half demolished.

I gave the piece of paper to the security guard. He looked at the signature on it and called the manager. After three verifications, a female employee led me to the safe room.

“The sender is Tran Duc Minh,” she said. “But the account was locked five years ago.”

The key opens a small iron compartment. Inside there was an envelope, a USB drive and a copy of the will. My father left me the right to represent a fund called Safe River, which was used to buy rescue boats for riverside districts.

I read every line, not understanding why a person known for embezzlement could set up a fund.

Envelope with letter:

"Han, if you can read it, it means the records have been taken out of Thien Ha's warehouse. The fund did not lose money in the accounting department. It was lost in embankment construction contracts."

I plugged in the USB. A transaction table appears, recording the amount transferred to Thanh Tin Company. The legal representative is Vu Quoc Thanh, Tuong Vy's uncle.

I called my mother. She was silent when she heard the name of the fund.

"Your father doesn't want you to get involved in the Vu family's affairs."

“So why didn't mom say anything?”

“Because he promised to let me grow up normally.”

I didn't have time to ask more. A man wearing a gray coat walked out of the shop opposite, looked straight at me and then left. I chased after but only saw a motorbike disappear.

In the afternoon, I received an invitation to Thien Ha headquarters. The signer is Vu Tuong Vy.

I arrived in my rescue uniform, no makeup. Tuong Vy sat behind a glass table, on the table there was a copy of my father's envelope.

“You got it at the bank.”

“Are you following me?”

“I protect the corporation's records.”

“The file shows that the fund's money was withdrawn through your company.”

Vy did not get angry. She just looked at the key in my hand.

“What did your father say in the letter?”

“He said don't trust the person who holds the highest chair.”

Vy nodded, as expected.

"You should believe him. But the person holding the highest position today is not me."

Outside the door, a board car stopped. Quoc Thanh walked in, carrying the smile of someone who has never lost.
