Chapter 19
Chapter 19 — The Empty Rescuer and the Female President Hide a Will
Ms. Nhu does not want to vote.
She said that if my relationship was made public, the family would lose both branches of inheritance. Vy did not agree.
“Mom has kept it from me long enough.”
“I hid it so you could live.”
“But I live in a chair that I don't know belongs to me.”
I listened over the phone and did not interfere.
Ms. Nhu finally agreed to make the fund's rights public, but asked Vy and I not to use the money to buy more shares. I accept. The fund was created to save lives, not to win over the council.
On the day of the vote, Quoc Thanh brought a doctor who said Vy was not healthy enough. Vy replied with treatment records proving that she was completely stable.
I presented a map of the riverside area, showing that more than three thousand households would be affected if their land was sold.
Lam stood up and announced the transfer of votes to Vy and the trust fund.
Result: temporary cancellation of land sale contract, opening of audit, Thanh was suspended.
After the meeting, Vy hugged me. The hug was awkward, like two people not used to touching each other.
“Can I call you once?”
“Do you want to hear it?”
"Want."
"Older sister."
Vy closed her eyes. I know you've been waiting since the day your father passed away.
The joy only lasted one night. The next morning, Quan disappeared from witness protection.
The camera recorded a person wearing a rescue team shirt taking him away. Tuan realized it was his old uniform.
“I locked up all the uniforms,” he said. “There's only one person left who has the key.”
That person is Deputy Captain Hung, a subordinate who once competed for position with Tuan.
Hung called me and asked me to bring the design of the embankment to the old bridge. I went with Vy, Nam and the undercover police.
Quan was tied up in an abandoned rescue vehicle. Hung stood next to him and told Thanh to promise to give him the team captain position.
I said:
“He won't let you live long enough to take office.”
Hung wavered. Thanh appeared from the darkness, firing a gun into the air.
During the chaos, Quan cut the wire himself with a piece of glass. Hung was captured, and Thanh ran towards the old tunnel.
We chased after and heard the steel door slam.
